Senior C++ Engineer

C++ engineering plays an important role in the development of Opera’s browser products. We are interested in building long-term relationships with experienced C++ engineers whose expertise could contribute to future opportunities across our browser and technology teams.

This is an ongoing talent opportunity for anticipated future hiring needs and may not represent an immediate vacancy.

At Opera, C++ engineers work on technically demanding products where performance, reliability and the quality of the user experience matter at scale. Depending on the opportunity, you could contribute to browser capabilities, platform components and new product experiences, working alongside experienced engineers across our R&D organization.

Role & Responsibilities

Depending on the team and opportunity, you could:

• Design, develop and maintain high-quality software using modern C++.

• Contribute to browser, platform and systems-level components across Opera products.

• Develop new product capabilities and improve existing functionality.

• Solve complex engineering challenges related to performance, reliability and resource efficiency.

• Investigate and resolve technical issues across application and system boundaries.

• Work with complex codebases while continuously improving architecture, maintainability and code quality.

• Collaborate with engineers across browser, product and other technology teams.

• Contribute to technical design, code reviews and engineering best practices.

Job Requirements

We are interested in engineers with:

• Strong professional software engineering experience and advanced knowledge of modern C++.

• Solid understanding of software architecture, algorithms, data structures and software design.

• Experience developing and maintaining complex production software.

• Good understanding of performance, memory management, concurrency and multithreaded systems.

• Strong debugging, analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Experience working effectively with complex or large-scale codebases.

• Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Preferred / Nice to Have

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be valuable:

• Chromium, browser engines or other browser technologies.

• Desktop or cross-platform application development.

• Windows, macOS and/or Linux development.

• Networking, rendering, media or other performance-sensitive systems.

• Python, Rust or other languages used alongside C++.

• Consumer-facing software operating at significant scale.

• AI-powered or emerging product technologies.
