Oracle LiveLabs is Oracle's hands-on learning platform. It enables customers, partners, students, educators, and internal teams to explore Oracle technologies through guided workshops and real cloud environments used in events, roadshows, university programs, and self-service learning.

The LiveLabs team designs, builds, and operates the platform, automation, and tools that support these experiences. The platform uses Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Terraform, Oracle APEX, Oracle Database, PL/SQL, and Linux to provide dependable workshop environments around the world.

Position Overview

We are looking for a Senior Principal Software Engineer to lead the technical direction of the Oracle LiveLabs platform. This is a hands-on role with responsibility for platform architecture, reliability, and long-term technical planning.

Platform engineering is the core of the role. The engineer will also help set the product roadmap by gathering requirements, prioritizing work, planning releases, and defining success measures.

The engineer will stay involved in design, implementation, code and design reviews, and production troubleshooting. They may occasionally brief internal teams, customers, or partners about the platform and its roadmap.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the architecture and technical direction of the LiveLabs platform across Oracle Database, PL/SQL, Oracle APEX, Linux, Terraform, OCI, AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.

• Lead the design and hands-on delivery of major platform work, with responsibility for reliability, security, performance, and cost.

• Create reusable Terraform patterns for provisioning, managing, and tearing down workshop environments across supported cloud providers.

• Lead development of the LiveLabs application and backend, including APEX features, PL/SQL services, database objects, scheduled jobs, integrations, and platform workflows.

• Work with product managers, engineers, workshop authors, and program stakeholders to turn user needs into requirements, priorities, and release plans.

• Improve software delivery using GitHub workflows, automated testing, continuous integration and delivery, and AI-assisted development tools. Diagnose and resolve complex platform and production issues using monitoring, incident response, and root cause analysis.

• Mentor engineers, lead design and code reviews, establish practical engineering standards, and communicate technical decisions to senior leaders.

• Support major events when needed and occasionally present the platform in briefings, demonstrations, and roadmap discussions.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, systems engineering, cloud infrastructure, or a closely related technical role.

• 7+ years of hands-on experience with Oracle Database and PL/SQL, including database design, packages and procedures, scheduled jobs, performance analysis, and production troubleshooting.

• 5+ years of experience building or operating cloud platforms or infrastructure on one or more of OCI, AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud, with working knowledge of multi-cloud architecture and core services.

• 5+ years of experience using Terraform or a comparable infrastructure-as-code tool in Linux or Unix environments, including shell scripting and at least one language such as Python, JavaScript, or Java.

• 3+ years of experience developing or operating applications with Oracle APEX or a comparable enterprise web application platform.

• 3+ years of experience with Git and GitHub workflows, automated testing, continuous integration and delivery, and deployment automation.

• 2+ years of practical experience using AI-assisted development tools, large language models, or generative AI services in software engineering, including reviewing generated output for accuracy, security, and maintainability.

• Proven experience leading complex platform work across teams, setting clear priorities, and explaining technical decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with technical workshops, labs, training, developer enablement, or self-service learning platforms.

• Experience designing portable multi-cloud patterns while accounting for provider-specific identity, networking, security, service, and operational models.

• Experience with containers, release engineering, cloud operations, and safe deployment and rollback practices.

• Experience using product discovery, stakeholder interviews, usage data, or operational metrics to guide platform priorities.

• Oracle certifications or advanced technical credentials in cloud infrastructure, databases, application development, or architecture.
