Consultant - Factory planning / Industrial Engineering

About the Role

P3 is seeking a highly motivated Consultant - Factory Planning & Industrial Engineering to help leading automotive and advanced manufacturing clients design, optimize, and transform their manufacturing operations. In this role, you will work directly with client leadership teams to develop innovative factory concepts, improve operational performance, and support the launch of next-generation manufacturing facilities.

You will contribute to high-impact projects involving factory planning, production system design, capacity expansion, automation, operational excellence, and manufacturing transformations across North America. Your involvement in the following tasks will vary from project to project, based on both project requirements and your professional strengths:

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Lead and support factory planning initiatives, including manufacturing facility design, production system development, and plant layout optimization.
• Develop material flow, logistics, warehousing, and space utilization concepts that enable efficient and scalable operations.
• Conduct capacity analyses, production planning studies, workforce assessments, and throughput evaluations to support future manufacturing requirements.
• Evaluate manufacturing technologies, automation solutions, and equipment strategies to improve productivity and competitiveness.
• Analyze production processes and identify opportunities to increase efficiency, improve quality, reduce costs, and optimize performance.
• Support greenfield and brownfield projects, plant expansions, production transfers, and manufacturing footprint transformations.
• Facilitate workshops and collaborate with client stakeholders to define operational requirements, project objectives, and implementation strategies.
• Apply Lean Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, and Continuous Improvement methodologies to drive operational excellence.
• Develop data-driven business cases, recommendations, and implementation roadmaps.
• Prepare and present findings, factory concepts, and strategic recommendations to client leadership and executive teams.
• Contribute to business development activities, proposal creation, and thought leadership initiatives within the firm.

WHO YOU ARE

• You hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Operations Management, or a related technical field.
• You have approximately 3-7 years of professional experience in factory planning, industrial engineering, manufacturing consulting, or a related field.
• You have experience working within automotive OEMs, automotive suppliers, or manufacturing consulting environments.
• You possess a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production systems, and factory planning methodologies.
• You have hands-on experience with
  • factory layout design
  • material flow and logistics planning
  • capacity planning and line balancing
  • production system development
  • Manufacturing process optimization
• You have supported facility expansion projects, manufacturing transformations, production relocations, or greenfield/brownfield initiatives.
• You are familiar with Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, and Operational Excellence principles.
• You have experience evaluating manufacturing technologies, automation concepts, and Industry 4.0 solutions.
• You can analyze complex data sets and translate findings into practical and actionable recommendations.
• You are proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experience with AutoCAD, Visio, simulation tools, or digital factory software is highly desirable.
• Experience with automotive launch management, production ramp-ups, battery manufacturing, e-mobility, or advanced automotive technologies is a plus.
• You possess strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills and are comfortable working directly with clients at all organizational levels.
• You thrive in a dynamic project environment, balancing multiple priorities while delivering high-quality results.
• You are legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• You are comfortable with extensive travel (up to 100% of your working time), typically Monday through Friday, depending on client and project needs.
