What you’ll do

The Modernization Team mandate is to identify and solve the deepest, most systemic architectural challenges in the platform - problems that are too strategic and cross-cutting for any single product team to own, yet too impactful to leave unresolved.

It is not a feature team. You do not own a single service or product surface. Instead, the team operates as a platform-level force multiplier: it takes on the hardest problems, build shared solutions and tooling, and enable every product team at Payoneer to move faster and more safely. You will lead the full cycle from the discovery, design, building, and validating solutions, unblocking critical initiatives, and setting technical direction that other teams can confidently adopt.

This is a brand-new team being built from the ground up. You will have an outsized opportunity to shape how we work, what we prioritize, and the engineering culture we create together.

Who you are

You are a seasoned, hands-on, engineering leader with a proven ability to create clarity, drive momentum, and take ownership in fast-moving, complex environments. You excel at breaking down ambiguous problems, aligning stakeholders, and moving initiatives from concept to execution with urgency and focus.

You bring deep cloud and architectural expertise, balancing strategic thinking with pragmatic delivery. You know when to design scalable, long-term patterns and when to deliver targeted, tactical solutions that unblock teams and accelerate progress across the organization.

You thrive in cross-team environments, earning trust, influencing without authority, and collaborating closely with product, architecture, security, and infrastructure groups to ensure alignment, adoption, and sustained impact.

Skills you are bringing with you

• 4+ years as Team Lead
• 6+ years of experience with backend development, preferably C# and Node.js
• 6+ years of experience with advanced SQL (MSSQL/MySQL/PostgreSQL, etc.)
• 4+ years of experience with NoSQL database, preferably MongoDB
• Experience with building SaaS platforms for cloud-based products, preferably AWS
• Experience with Containers and Kubernetes (K8s), preferably EKS
• Experience with Event-Driven Architecture
• Experience with Message Brokers such as RabbitMQ/SQS/Kafka, preferably Kafka
• Experience with Microservices development
• Experience with AI tools for leveraging team velocity & quality
• B.S. in computer science or equivalent
