About the Role - Full-Stack Software Engineer

Peak Energy is looking for a Full-Stack Software Engineer to help scale the software backbone behind our grid-scale battery storage systems. Our platform ingests, processes, and surfaces operational data from batteries deployed in the field - turning raw telemetry into the metrics our customers, operations team, and engineering team rely on every day. As Peak grows from pilot deployments to gigawatt-scale production in Sacramento, this platform becomes mission-critical.

This is a hands-on, full-stack role that spans application code, cloud infrastructure, and the tooling that ties it all together. You'll design and build data pipelines that calculate the metrics that define battery performance (round-trip efficiency, availability, cycle tracking), wire our manufacturing environment into that pipeline as we ramp Sacramento production, and own the infrastructure and CI/CD practices that make our software team fast and reliable.

You'll join a small software team where individual ownership is real - you'll ship, monitor, and iterate on production systems that customers, operators, and engineers all depend on. This is a great fit for someone who wants to build meaningful infrastructure at a company doing genuinely novel work in energy storage.

This role partners closely with ESS Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Product.

What You'll Do - (Responsibilities)

• Design, build, and maintain the post-processing pipeline that calculates production-critical battery metrics - round-trip efficiency, availability, cycle tracking - from raw telemetry, using Azure Functions and persisting to our cloud database for dashboarding and analytics.

• Connect our manufacturing database to physical devices and the cloud pipeline as Peak scales production at our Sacramento factory, enabling data-driven manufacturing at gigawatt scale.

• Maintain and improve the real-time data pipeline infrastructure from physical sites in the field to our cloud database, ensuring reliability and low latency across a growing fleet of deployed batteries.

• Design and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines for build, test, and deployment across our software stack, reducing time from commit to production.

• Define and manage cloud resources via Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or equivalent), replacing manual provisioning with repeatable, version-controlled infrastructure that scales as our deployment footprint grows.

• Partner with ESS Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to instrument new features, surface the right data to the right teams, and improve observability across the platform.

• Own production issues end-to-end when they arise - diagnose, fix, and improve the systems to prevent recurrence.

What You'll Bring (Minimum Qualifications)

• 4+ years of software engineering experience with meaningful full-stack, backend, or platform work in production.

• Strong Python skills - backend data processing, automation, scripting.

• Strong SQL skills - PostgreSQL, time-series queries, schema design and migrations.

• Cloud platform experience - Azure preferred; AWS or GCP transferable.

• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code - Terraform or equivalent tooling.

• Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines - GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar.

• Comfort taking ownership of production systems, including monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience with battery systems, energy storage, EV, IoT, or industrial telemetry platforms.

• Experience with real-time streaming data infrastructure - Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, Kinesis, or similar.

• Familiarity with observability and monitoring platforms - Datadog, Grafana, Application Insights.

• Docker and container orchestration experience.

• Prior experience at a Series B/C hardware or industrial startup - comfort with the pace and building process where none exists.

• Experience partnering with hardware, firmware, or embedded teams.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $180,000 - $240,000, with actual pay varying based on work location, experience, and skills. Our competitive benefits package includes:
