Night Shift Fleet Controller

A well-established transport and logistics company in Benoni is seeking an experienced Night Shift Fleet Controller to join their operations team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and coordinating fleet movements during the night shift, communicating with drivers, managing operational incidents and ensuring that transport schedules and deliveries are effectively managed.

This position requires someone with genuine transport/fleet control room experience, strong geographical knowledge and the ability to remain calm and make effective decisions under pressure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitor and coordinate fleet movements, routes and delivery schedules.
• Track vehicles using GPS and fleet monitoring systems.
• Maintain regular communication with drivers throughout their shifts.
• Provide operational support and guidance to drivers.
• Monitor and manage breakdowns, delays, route deviations and other incidents.
• Coordinate roadside assistance when required.
• Escalate critical operational issues to the relevant management.
• Provide customers and management with accurate operational updates.
• Maintain accurate vehicle tracking records and shift reports.
• Complete and maintain relevant transport documentation.
• Identify potential operational issues and take appropriate action to minimise disruptions.
• Ensure smooth and efficient fleet operations throughout the night shift.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Matric / Grade 12.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in a transport or logistics control room environment.
• Previous experience in fleet control, transport operations or logistics monitoring is essential.
• Computer literate, with strong working knowledge of:
• Microsoft Excel
• Microsoft Outlook
• Data capturing systems
• Good geographical knowledge of South African roads, national routes and major transport corridors
• Experience using GPS tracking and fleet monitoring systems.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organisational and administrative abilities.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work independently and remain calm under pressure.
• Must be willing and able to work permanent night shifts, weekends and public holidays.
• Important: Candidates with only security control room experience, without actual transport/fleet control experience, will not be considered.

WORKING HOURS

• 18:00 – 06:00
• 4 days on / 4 days off
• The successful candidate must be available to work weekends and public holidays as required by the shift roster.

PACKAGE

• R18,500 CTC per month
• Permanent position, subject to successful completion of a 3-month probation period.
