Senior Software Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Engineer who is strong on the backend and comfortable owning features end-to-end, from the services that power our risk-decisioning engine through to the React interfaces built on top of them. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role with real ownership: you will take features from architecture through to production, build both the API and the UI where needed, and operate what you build.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain backend services in Java / Spring Boot that power fraud detection and order-risk decisioning.
• Build and maintain React interfaces and internal tooling that surface decisioning data clearly.
• Model and query data across Postgres (transactional), BigQuery (analytics), and BigTable (high-throughput lookups), choosing the right store for each access pattern.
• Build and scale data pipelines and integrations that feed the decisioning engine.
• Own features end-to-end across API and UI, and own services running on GCP / GKE: deployment, observability, cost, and reliability.
• Contribute to the fraud-analytics and decisioning logic, translating risk rules and signals into robust, testable code.
• Write clean, well-tested code and take part in design and code reviews; help raise the engineering bar across the team.
• Collaborate with data/ML, product, and other engineers to ship end-to-end.

Requirements:

• 4-8 years of engineering experience building production services and web applications.
• Strong command of Java and the Spring Boot ecosystem (primary strength).
• Solid React experience to build and maintain a real, non-trivial frontend, not just tweak components.
• Solid, practical GCP experience: you have built and run services on Google Cloud in production.
• Hands-on with BigQuery, Bigtable, and Postgres, with a good sense of when to use which and how to model and query each efficiently.
• Comfortable with distributed systems, API design, and high-throughput, low-latency services.
• Experience with CI/CD (we use GitHub Actions), containers, and Kubernetes/GKE.
• Strong debugging instincts and a bias toward owning problems end-to-end.

Nice to have:

• Experience in fraud, risk, payments, e-commerce, or the Shopify ecosystem.
• Exposure to data pipelines, event-driven architectures, or streaming.
• Experience with modern frontend tooling, state management, and building data-heavy interfaces.
• Experience working with ML/data-science teams to productionize models or scoring logic.
