SUMMARY:

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join Placer.ai’s mobility engineering group and build the systems behind one of the world’s largest location-analytics platforms.

In this role, you’ll work on backend services that process and serve millions of clients, power ML-driven insights, and operate at high scale and high reliability. If you’re motivated by hard technical challenges, modern infrastructure, and collaborating with strong engineers, this role is built for you.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Own services end-to-end - from architecture and design to production, monitoring, and continuous improvement
• Drive performance, scalability, and reliability, using data and metrics to guide decisions
• Build infrastructure and data pipelines that support machine-learning, analytics, and real-time use cases
• Partner closely with Product, Data Science, and Analytics to turn complex data into impactful product features
• Raise the engineering bar through code reviews, design discussions, and technical mentorship

REQUIREMENTS:

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience in high scale systems
• 2+ years working on NodeJS backend systems with TypeScript or JavaScript
• Excellent proficiency in Cloud Computing environments (AWS or GCP) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
• Familiarity with mobile app development (iOS/Android) in one or more of the following: Kotlin, Swift, Objective C, Java
• Solid engineering fundamentals: system design, data structures, APIs, testing, and observability
• Hands-on experience with data-intensive systems and complex data pipelines
• BSc in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
• Optional: Data engineering experience with Apache Spark is a big plus

Demonstrated use of AI tools to work more efficiently-whether professionally or personally-and a curiosity for finding new ways to apply them.Comfort integrating generative AI into day-to-day workflows to boost productivity, quality, and output.
