Legal Counsel

About the role:

As Legal Counsel at Plenti, you’ll be at the heart of the business, working alongside senior leaders and teams to help turn ideas into action. From supporting new products and commercial partnerships to navigating complex regulatory matters, you’ll have the opportunity to influence how we operate and grow.

You’ll work across consumer credit, financial services regulation, commercial agreements, governance, privacy and disputes. It’s a role that offers genuine variety, strong exposure to the business and the opportunity to continue developing your commercial legal capability.

Key responsibilities:

• Provide day to day legal and regulatory advice to business teams, responding to ad-hoc queries and helping stakeholders navigate legal risk and requirements
• Partner with Product and project teams on new products, services and features, advising on legal and regulatory implications and providing pragmatic solutions that balance risk, commercial outcomes and customer experience
• Draft, review and negotiate a range of agreements, including those with loan referral partners, funders, commercial partners and service providers
• Draft and review standard contract templates and documentation across regulated and unregulated consumer and commercial lending
• Support the investigation and management of potential regulatory breaches, including assessing reporting obligations, preparing breach notifications and advising on remediation
• Prepare and support responses to borrower, investor and shareholder complaints, disputes and other legal matters
• Review promotional, marketing and customer-facing materials to ensure they meet relevant legal and regulatory requirements
• Support the General Counsel and Company Secretary with corporate governance matters, reporting and other stakeholder requirements
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders across Plenti, providing clear, commercially minded advice and helping teams make informed decisions

About you:

You’re a commercially minded lawyer with strong technical foundations and a practical, solutions-focused approach. You’re curious, collaborative and can thrive in a fast-paced fintech environment. In addition you will have:

• Tertiary qualifications in law and admission to practice in NSW or another State or Territory
• 2-6 years’ PQE
• Experience advising financial services firms on legal and regulatory frameworks, including the Corporations Act, Consumer Credit, and banking and finance
• Strong technical legal and regulatory advice across a range of matters
• Keen interest in financial services and its legal, regulatory and commercial environment
• Commercial, empathetic and focused on creating a great stakeholder experience
• Strong attention to detail and high-quality delivery
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work collaboratively and autonomously
