The Purpose

As the BDM - Government, your role will be focused on growing AP+'s commercial outcomes across government by identifying, shaping and progressing strategic opportunities that support our public-interest purpose and domestic payments priorities. Your role will see you build trusted relationships with senior government stakeholders, translate government and ecosystem needs into clear opportunities and value cases, and lead proposals and commercial initiatives that drive adoption, partnership outcomes and long-term value for Australian consumers and businesses.

Key Responsibilities the Role Owns:

  • Build and maintain trusted senior relationships across government, positioning AP+ to contribute to priorities, funding decisions and reform agendas.
  • Engage with State and Territory Treasury departments, including senior departmental and policy stakeholders, to align opportunities with Ministerial intent and government priorities.
  • Identify, qualify and progress a strategic pipeline of government opportunities aligned to AP+ strategy, product priorities and delivery capacity.
  • Develop and execute strategic account and engagement plans for priority government stakeholders, coordinating whole-of-government and ecosystem relationships where required.
  • Lead end-to-end bid and proposal activity for small to medium initiatives, including offer shaping, commercial inputs, risk management and internal coordination.
  • Undertake feasibility assessments and support business cases, bringing together cost-benefit, impact, risk and strategic alignment to inform investment decisions and measurable outcomes.
  • Assist the broader commercial team pursue AP+ interests with other stakeholders beyond Government.

You’ll likely be a strong fit for this role if:

  • You bring demonstrated experience in government relations, strategic engagement, public sector advisory or senior commercial roles, with exposure to government, Ministerial Offices or central agencies and the confidence to engage senior government stakeholders.
  • You understand how government priorities, policy development, funding models and implementation approaches come together, ideally with experience across State or Territory Treasury portfolios.
  • You have strong business development, sales or commercial experience and a track record of identifying, qualifying and progressing strategic opportunities.
  • You have successfully led bids and proposals, balancing stakeholder needs, commercial inputs, risk and internal delivery considerations.
  • You build credibility quickly and can develop trusted relationships across complex stakeholder environments, influencing decisions while navigating different priorities.
  • You bring strong strategic and commercial judgement, with experience supporting feasibility assessments, business cases, investment decisions and benefits-focused outcomes.
  • Familiarity with financial services or payments, including the broader payments ecosystem, would be highly regarded.
  • You’ll be comfortable working autonomously in a dynamic environment, balancing competing priorities across multiple areas and adapting quickly as needs evolve.
