AP+

AP+ operates Australia's domestic payments infrastructure - including the eftpos debit network, BPAY bill payments, and the NPP (the country's real-time payments system) - along with ConnectID, a safe and secure way to verify identity. By partnering with more than 150 organisations we connect banks, financial institutions, retailers, businesses, government agencies and fintechs to make it possible for everyone in Australia to pay, get paid, and prove their identity every day. We're shaping the future of payments by enabling innovation, enhancing security, and ensuring the payments system works better for everyone.

Life at AP+

We are one connected team in pursuit of one inspiring purpose - to unite people and technology to power better experiences.

Australian Payments Plus (AP+) sits at the heart of Australia’s payments ecosystem. We operate critical domestic payments and identity infrastructure, connecting banks, financial institutions, retailers, businesses, government agencies and fintechs so Australians can pay, get paid and prove their identity every day.

We’re building secure, resilient and innovative payment experiences for today and for the digital future. Our work spans some of Australia’s most important payments infrastructure, giving our people the opportunity to solve complex problems at genuine national scale.

We’re driven by our values: lead with heart, learn for tomorrow and live our legacy. We’re ambitious about what we can achieve together, while creating a workplace where people can bring big ideas, build great relationships and continue to grow.

The Role

As Senior Product Manager - Fraud & Scams, you’ll play a key role in shaping and evolving products and capabilities that help protect Australians and the payments ecosystem from fraud and scams.

This is a genuine product leadership role. You’ll own products through their lifecycle - from identifying customer problems and shaping propositions, through roadmap development and delivery, to launch, optimisation and ongoing operation. The role will use market insight, customer feedback and performance data to make evidence-based product decisions and deliver outcomes that balance customer needs, business objectives and the rapidly changing fraud landscape.

A key part of this role is building trusted relationships with our member organisations (including banks and non-banks). You’ll engage with stakeholders across fraud & scams as well as product to understand their priorities and evolving fraud-management needs. Acting as a key link to member fraud teams, you’ll translate insights into product opportunities, influence priorities, and communicate product strategy and roadmap decisions with confidence and credibility.

The role is particularly suited to someone who brings deep, hands-on fraud and scams expertise, combined with strong product management capability. You’ll need to understand the mechanics of fraud across different payment rails and be able to translate complex fraud challenges into practical, scalable products and controls.

This Role Is Responsible For:

  • Own and manage the full product lifecycle, identifying customer and market needs and translating them into compelling product propositions, strategies and roadmaps.
  • Develop products and capabilities that address evolving fraud and scam risks, using data, market intelligence, customer insight and industry trends to identify opportunities and priorities.
  • Apply deep expertise across card fraud, including card-present and card-not-present fraud, issuer and acquirer dynamics, authorisation, fraud detection and scoring, digital wallets and tokenisation, disputes and chargebacks.
  • Bring strong knowledge of account-to-account payments and scams, including real-time payments, APP scams, account takeover, mule activity, transaction monitoring and scoring, intervention and recovery.
  • Translate complex fraud problems into practical product propositions, customer journeys, capabilities and controls that can operate effectively at scale.
  • Lead cross-functional delivery teams, prioritise requirements, manage backlogs and ensure products deliver measurable value through the delivery lifecycle.
  • Coordinate customer testing, product launches, communications and training, and continually adapt products in response to changing customer, market and risk requirements.
  • Build business cases and assess potential product and change options, considering commercial, technical, operational and risk impacts.
  • Develop strong relationships across banks, fraud and scams leaders, technology and data teams, customers and senior internal stakeholders, influencing outcomes without relying on formal authority.
  • Provide specialist advice that supports operational leadership and the translation of strategy into execution.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, products and operating models as the fraud and scams environment continues to evolve.

In order to be successful in this role you’ll need to demonstrate:

  • Deep fraud and scams domain expertise - substantive experience designing, managing or operating fraud/scam prevention products, capabilities or controls. Experience simply delivering projects involving a fraud function will not be sufficient.
  • Strong card fraud knowledge - a detailed understanding of card-present and card-not-present fraud, issuer/acquirer dynamics, authorisation, fraud detection and scoring, digital wallets/tokenisation and disputes and chargebacks.
  • Account-to-account fraud and scams expertise - experience with real-time or A2A payments, ideally including NPP, with a strong understanding of APP scams, account takeover, mule activity, transaction monitoring, intervention and recovery.
  • Proven product management capability - experience owning products end-to-end, from identifying customer problems and developing propositions through to roadmap creation, prioritisation, business cases, delivery, launch and ongoing optimisation. The position description requires 3+ years’ experience as a Senior Product Manager.
  • Strong payments and financial services knowledge - ideally gained within banking, payments, fintech or a related regulated environment.
  • Commercial and strategic thinking - able to assess ambiguous problems, understand trade-offs and develop evidence-based recommendations and business cases.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and influence - confident engaging with banks, fraud leaders, technology and data specialists and senior stakeholders, building credibility quickly and influencing outcomes across organisational boundaries.
  • Strong delivery discipline - comfortable leading multidisciplinary teams, prioritising competing demands and turning product strategy into tangible outcomes.
  • A customer and problem-solving mindset - able to investigate complex and ambiguous situations, understand root causes and identify practical opportunities for improvement.

Why this role?

This is an opportunity to work on fraud and scam challenges that matter at a national level, within an organisation operating critical payments infrastructure for Australia. You’ll combine deep domain expertise with genuine product ownership, working across the payments ecosystem to develop solutions that can make a meaningful difference to how Australians pay safely and confidently.
