Internship Account cum Store Assistant

We're a close-knit retail and online team focused on serving local customers with thoughtful products and reliable service, and we want you working with us at Purnama Mahir Sdn Bhd to learn the ropes of both store operations and day-to-day accounting.

Role purpose

As an intern Account cum Store Assistant you are the practical backbone that keeps stock organised, transactions recorded, and online orders moving smoothly so the team can focus on serving customers well.

Your Growth & Impact

• Build practical accounting experience by recording real transactions and supporting accounts receivable and accounts payable.
• Learn inventory control and POS workflows through daily stock counts and store tasks.
• Expand e-commerce skills by updating product listings and assisting with order packing.
• Strengthen customer communication with face-to-face and online interactions that improve service delivery.

Responsibilities

Store Operations

• Receive and check incoming deliveries, organise stock and update inventory records accurately.
• Perform daily or weekly stock counts and reconcile any discrepancies with stock sheets or POS reports.
• Keep the shop floor tidy, refresh displays and assist with packing for customer collections.

Accounting & Finance Support

• Record sales, purchases, receipts and payments in ledgers or basic accounting software for routine bookkeeping.
• Support accounts receivable and accounts payable by preparing invoices, logging receipts and following up on outstanding payments.
• Assist with simple bank reconciliations and prepare summary reports for review by senior staff.

Online Store & Customer Support

• Update online product listings, manage stock availability and coordinate order packing and dispatch.
• Respond to basic customer enquiries through chat, email or phone with clear and polite communication.
• Handle returns and refund requests, logging details and coordinating with finance and store teams.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a diploma or degree in Accounting, Business, Retail Management or a related field.
• Open to candidates with 0 years of experience; part-time retail or previous internship exposure is a plus.
• Available to work flexible shifts, including weekends when store peak hours require.

Hard Skills & Knowledge

• Basic understanding of accounting and bookkeeping principles, including accounts receivable and accounts payable.
• Comfortable using Microsoft Excel for data entry and simple formulas, and willing to learn common accounting software such as QuickBooks or Xero.
• Familiarity or willingness to learn POS systems, inventory tracking and online store platforms for order management.
• Ability to prepare simple financial summaries and keep accurate records for audits and reviews.

Soft Skills & Qualities

• Strong attention to detail and a habit of keeping organised records.
• Clear communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia for customer-facing tasks.
• Dependable, punctual and ready to support a small team with a can-do attitude.
• Eagerness to learn, accept feedback and grow practical retail and accounting skills on the job.
