Job Description:

POLITICO is looking for a reporter to cover one of the mostcolorfuland contentious topics in Europe: food and agriculture policy, with an emphasis on spending and trade.

Food and farming lie at the heart of some of the EU’s biggest clashes. From Europe-wide protests over import competitiontowar-fueled grocery inflation that threatens to topple governments, as well asthe next reform of the vast Common Agricultural Policy, this beat offers a chance to break news on some of the biggest stories in Europe.

We are looking for a reporter who can drive coverageoftopics ranging fromtheway price spikes cascade through the supply chain,to the fact and fiction of beef import quotas- while connecting the dotsbetween technical budget linesin the EU’sfarmersupport plantoexistential political debates about European autonomy and climate transition.

The successful candidate will have an eye for detail,be comfortable withnumbersandan appetite forrigorous reporting, source-buildingand scoops. They will bea team player, with a good understanding of how policy is made andtheabilityto develop sources within the EU, governments, industryorganizationsand interest groups involved in policy.

This is a full-time role basedinour Brussels newsroom.

• Break news as part of a team covering Food and Agriculture for both POLITICO Pro, our subscription news service, and a broader readership

• Jointly author a must-read morning newsletter for subscribers

• Deliver accessible reads of varying lengththat appeal beyond a specialist audience

• Build a broad network of sources

• Work closely with colleagues covering trade, health care,climateand other beats

• Be a public face of POLITICO at events and panels on topics related to your beat

WhatYou’llNeed:

• At least twoyears’ newsroom experience

• Demonstrable interest in food and agriculture policyor economic policy

• Comfortableworking withnumbers, including financialdata

• Keen understanding of political trends at both the European and national levels

• Strongtrack recordof breaking news

• Strong attention to detail and unafraid of digging into policy coverage in some depth

• Written and verbal fluency in English

• Other European languages are a strong plus
