POLITICO is an American digital media and news organization headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, specializing in nonpartisan coverage of politics, public policy, and government affairs. Founded in 2007 by Robert Allbritton, John F. Harris, and Jim VandeHei, the publication established itself through fast-paced, high-detail political reporting, influential daily newsletters like *Playbook*, and a paid subscription platform (POLITICO Pro) tailored for policy professionals, lobbyists, and decision-makers. In 2021, the media company was acquired by German publishing giant Axel Springer SE, expanding its global footprint across North America and Europe.

Job Description:

We are seeking a journalist and editorial producer with a deep understanding of European institutions, policymaking and political dynamics-and how developments in Brussels influence other European capitals, and vice versa.

The Editorial Producer will work to develop ambitious, relevant and distinctive programs that advance the editorial agenda, move conversations forward and deliver meaningful value for audiences.

The role will also be involved in the full editorial life cycle of event content: creating innovative ways to promote programs before an event, developing engaging content during the event, and extending the reach and impact of the journalism afterwards through formats and distribution strategies that give the content a longer tail.

Also working closely and collaboratively with commercial and client teams, the Editorial Producer will be expected to understand and respond to client objectives while protecting the quality, independence and integrity of the editorial product. This requires sound editorial judgement, strong communication skills and the ability to balance competing priorities constructively.

What You'll Do

  • Develop distinctive, timely and ambitious editorial programs for POLITICO’s European events.
  • Identify the issues, themes and debates most relevant to our audiences and shape them into compelling event concepts.
  • Build balanced, high-level speaker lineups, securing the right people for the right conversations.
  • Work with moderators, speakers and contributors to ensure informed, dynamic and editorially valuable discussions.
  • Work collaboratively with journalists, event producers, marketing, commercial and client teams throughout the event lifecycle.
  • Develop creative editorial content to promote events before they take place and after they are over, including interviews, previews, explainers, video, audio and social content.
  • Contribute to post-event analysis, assessing audience engagement, editorial impact and opportunities for improvement.

What You'll Need

  • At least 3 years of experience as a journalist, editor or editorial producer with strong editorial judgement and an understanding of EU politics, policymaking and institutions.
  • Skilled at turning complex issues into clear, compelling and accessible conversations.
  • A creative thinker who can develop fresh program ideas, innovative formats and engaging content across multiple platforms.
  • Commercially aware and comfortable understanding client needs and developing creative ideas and solutions.
  • Collaborative, diplomatic and confident working across editorial, production, commercial and marketing teams.
  • Highly organized, able to manage multiple programs, deadlines and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Fluent in English; additional European languages would be an advantage.

We value our people

Our benefits package is built for you, and includes:

  • Our teams benefit from country-specific, competitive compensation and benefits packages-including pension, healthcare, training opportunities and more.
  • With a multinational team, strong ties to EU institutions, and flexible work options including working from abroad, we offer our employees an environment that supports both professional and personal development.

About Us

POLITICO illuminates the forces shaping global power. Since 2007, we have delivered intelligence that anticipates tomorrow's headlines, not reports on yesterday's news. As politics has increasingly become the defining force of our era, our work has never been more vital.

Cabinet secretaries and Ministers start their mornings with our analysis. CEOs shape strategy around our reporting. Advocacy leaders rely on our insights to move policy. We deliver the straightforward facts and clear-eyed analysis they need to navigate the most complex political landscape of our lifetimes.

Our 1,100+ publishing professionals across the world's key democratic capitals-Washington, Brussels, London, Paris, Berlin, Sacramento, and New York-form the world's premier politics and policy newsroom. We tell the story of how power really works by explaining who wields it and how they plan to exercise it, connecting dots others miss and delivering scoops from sources others don't even know exist.

Innovation has always been a core tenet of our story. At launch, we bet that depth would trump scale, that talent would trump traffic, and that politics would become central to modern life. In 2011, we made another bet and launched POLITICO Pro to help decision-makers understand the business of government, transforming both how they shape government action and the business of journalism itself.

These bets have made POLITICO the most successful digital news startup of its generation and the indispensable resource for leaders who shape the future. Today, we are a rarity in media: a growing, profitable, and sustainable news organization.

POLITICO is a subsidiary of Axel Springer SE, a family-owned transatlantic media company headquartered in Berlin and New York. Axel Springer is dedicated to shaping the future of journalism in the free world, believing that a free and informed society is essential to democracy. The company’s guiding principles - first articulated as The Essentials by founder Axel Springer in the aftermath of World War II - remain a cornerstone of the company’s foundation today.
