We are looking for a Software Engineer II - Backend who enjoys building scalable features, solving complex workflow problems, and taking ownership of production-grade systems. You will work on core HMS capabilities used by healthcare providers while contributing to the continued improvement of the platform's architecture, performance, reliability, and maintainability.

What You'll Actually Do :

1. Build and Enhance Core HMS Capabilities :

- Design and develop backend features across critical hospital workflows, including patient administration, billing, pharmacy, inventory, diagnostics, insurance, and clinical records.

- Take ownership of features from technical design and implementation through testing, deployment, and production support.

2. Develop Reliable Backend Services :

- Build clean, modular, and maintainable backend services with well-defined APIs.

- Design systems with reliability, data consistency, concurrency, fault tolerance, and graceful recovery in mind - particularly for workflows that directly affect hospital operations and patient experience.

3. Solve Complex Healthcare Workflows :

- Translate complex hospital processes and product requirements into practical, scalable technical solutions.

- Collaborate with product managers, domain experts, frontend engineers, and quality teams to understand real-world use cases and deliver effective solutions.

4. Improve Performance and Data Integrity :

- Design and maintain database schemas for interconnected healthcare workflows.

- Optimize queries, indexes, transactions, caching, and data-access patterns to maintain performance as customer complexity and transaction volumes increase.

5. Build Secure Integrations :

- Develop and maintain integrations with laboratories, pharmacies, payment systems, insurance platforms, medical devices, and other healthcare applications.

- Ensure these integrations are secure, observable, resilient to failures, and capable of protecting sensitive patient and hospital information.

6. Modernize Existing Systems :

- Contribute to the gradual modernization of legacy or tightly coupled components by improving modularity, code quality, and service boundaries.

- Build new capabilities without disrupting the hospital workflows that rely on the platform every day.

7. AI-Augmented Engineering :

- Use LLM-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Copilot, or similar platforms to accelerate implementation and reduce repetitive work.

- Apply your engineering judgment to architecture, security, scalability, testing, edge cases, and production readiness.

8. Take Engineering Ownership :

- Actively participate in technical discussions, design reviews, and code reviews.

- Monitor the services you build, investigate production issues, and continuously improve system reliability, performance, and maintainability.

- Backend Engineering Experience : 2 - 6 years of experience building and operating production-grade backend applications.

2. Technical Superpowers :

- Strong hands-on experience with at least one backend programming language.

- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, and core computer science fundamentals.

- Good understanding of modular architecture, API contracts, service boundaries, scalability, and failure handling.

- Hands-on experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.

- Knowledge of database schema design, transactions, indexing, locking, and query optimization.

- Experience designing and maintaining secure REST APIs or equivalent service interfaces.

- Understanding of asynchronous processing, background jobs, caching, messaging systems, and service-to-service communication.

- Knowledge of concurrency, race conditions, idempotency, retries, transaction boundaries, and failure recovery.

- Understanding of authentication, authorization, data privacy, auditability, and secure handling of sensitive information.

- Experience writing unit and integration tests and following sound software-engineering practices.

- Familiarity with logging, monitoring, debugging, and resolving production issues.

3. Nice-to-Haves :

- Experience working on Hospital Management Systems, electronic medical records, healthcare SaaS products, or workflow-intensive enterprise platforms.

- Understanding of hospital functions such as billing, pharmacy, inventory, diagnostics, insurance, and patient administration.

- Experience working with multi-tenant SaaS architectures.

- Familiarity with healthcare integrations or interoperability standards.

- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or similar containerization and orchestration tools.

- Familiarity with AWS or another cloud platform.

- Experience with technologies such as Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Elasticsearch.

- Exposure to improving or modernizing large, mature backend systems.
