Are you a microbiologist looking to take your scientific expertise beyond the bench and into a more varied, customer-facing role?

Proclinical is working with an innovative life sciences technology company that is developing new approaches to microbiological testing and quality control.

As part of their continued growth, they are looking for a Microbiologist - Field Applications to support the implementation and application of their technology within customer laboratories and manufacturing environments.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced industrial or QC microbiologist who enjoys hands-on science and problem solving, but wants greater variety, customer interaction and exposure to innovative technology.

The Role

This role sits at the intersection of microbiology, technology and customer applications.

You'll combine hands-on laboratory work with time spent at customer sites, supporting the successful implementation and ongoing use of new microbiological testing technology.

You'll work closely with customers to understand their workflows, help validate methods, provide training and troubleshoot scientific challenges. You'll also work alongside internal scientific and technical teams, sharing insight from the field to help improve future applications.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Support the implementation of microbiological testing technology within customer laboratories and manufacturing environments
  • Provide scientific and technical support throughout customer onboarding and adoption
  • Carry out and evaluate microbiological testing and method validation
  • Work with techniques including microbial culture, identification, microscopy and sample preparation
  • Develop and optimise microbiological methods for different sample types and applications
  • Troubleshoot scientific and technical issues in both laboratory and customer environments
  • Train microbiologists, laboratory scientists and other users on technology and associated workflows
  • Understand existing customer QC microbiology processes and identify opportunities to improve workflows
  • Communicate customer requirements and technical feedback to internal scientific teams
  • Produce clear technical documentation and communicate findings across scientific and non-scientific stakeholders
  • Build strong relationships with customers throughout implementation and ongoing use

About You

We're looking for someone with a strong foundation in hands-on microbiology who also enjoys working with people.

You'll ideally have:

  • Professional experience within industrial, applied or quality control microbiology
  • Strong practical experience in microbial culture and identification
  • Experience with microscopy and microbiological sample preparation
  • A good understanding of microbiological quality control workflows
  • Experience working within an industrial, manufacturing or regulated laboratory environment
  • Strong scientific troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • The confidence to work directly with customers and provide technical guidance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • An interest in new microbiology technologies, automation and data-driven approaches
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Flexibility to travel regularly to customer sites

Previous experience as a Field Application Scientist isn't essential. This could be an excellent move for an experienced QC or industrial microbiologist looking to transition into a more customer-facing scientific position.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is a chance to take your microbiology experience in a different direction without moving away from the science.

You'll be able to:

  • Combine hands-on microbiology with customer-facing scientific work
  • Work on different scientific challenges rather than repetitive routine testing
  • Gain exposure to innovative microbiological technologies
  • Work across laboratory and industrial environments
  • Develop experience in applications science, technology implementation and customer training
  • Work closely with both customers and internal scientific teams
  • Travel and gain exposure to different laboratory environments
  • Have a visible impact on how new microbiological technology is implemented and developed
  • Join a growing organisation where you'll have genuine responsibility and autonomy
