[IT] IT Engineer (ZRH)

About the Role
Prometheus is a frontier AI research lab building the intelligence layer for the physical world, bringing together ML researchers, physicists, materials scientists, and systems engineers across the full stack. Our Zurich office is growing, and we’re hiring our first dedicated IT Engineer to be the person on the ground there.
This is a hands-on, people-facing role. You’ll own day-to-day IT for Zurich end to end - the laptops, the accounts, the meeting rooms, the office network, and the person at your desk who can’t get into a tool ten minutes before a demo. You won’t be setting global architecture on your own; our Staff IT Engineer in the UK and the wider IT team own the standards for identity, endpoint management, and Zero Trust. Your job is to run those standards well in Zurich, spot where they don’t fit local reality, and say so.
We think of this as a role with room in it. You’ll start close to the helpdesk and, as you grow, take on more of the engineering: automation, MDM configuration, access tooling, and regional project ownership.
What You’ll Do
Own the day-to-day IT experience for the Zurich office - onboarding and offboarding, hardware provisioning and lifecycle, in-person troubleshooting, and making new joiners productive on day one.
Administer endpoints through our MDM/UEM platform (Iru and Intune) across macOS (primary), Windows, ChromeOS, iOS, and Android - enrollment, patching, configuration profiles, and compliance reporting.
Execute identity and access work in Okta and Google Workspace: user lifecycle, group and role assignment, SCIM app provisioning, MFA and hardware key enrollment, and access reviews.
Support and maintain the office network - Unifi/Meraki access points and switches, VLANs, cabling, patch panels, and moves/adds/changes as the space grows.
Keep conference rooms and AV working reliably. Video that just works is a real deliverable, not a nice-to-have.
Triage, resolve, and escalate tickets for the region, owning response quality and turnaround for EMEA hours.
Maintain accurate asset inventory and hardware stock, and manage local vendor and procurement relationships.
Write and maintain documentation and runbooks so the next person - or a colleague in another time zone - can pick up where you left off.
Partner with Security and Compliance on device posture, evidence collection, and audit requests.
Look for the repeated manual task and help kill it - through scripting, an MDM policy, or a workflow change.
What You Bring
2-5 years of hands-on IT support or IT engineering experience, ideally in a fast-moving technology company.
Strong working knowledge of macOS in a managed environment, plus competence with Windows and ChromeOS.
Practical experience with an MDM/UEM platform - you’ve enrolled devices, pushed profiles, and debugged why one didn’t apply.
Familiarity with Okta (or a comparable IdP) and Google Workspace administration; a working grasp of SSO, SAML/OIDC, and least-privilege access.
Real networking fundamentals: VLANs, DHCP/DNS, Wi-Fi troubleshooting, switch basics, and comfort behind a rack.
Some scripting exposure (Bash, Python, PowerShell, or AppleScript) - or clear evidence you want to build that muscle.
Excellent interpersonal skills. Most of this job is people. You explain things without condescension, stay calm when someone is stressed, and follow through without being chased.
A self-starter mindset: you’re often the only IT person in the room, and you’re comfortable making a sensible call and flagging it. You’ll have colleagues in London and MSP on call for backup.
Professional fluency in English; German is a strong plus given the office and local vendors.
Nice to Have
Jamf, Kandji, Intune, or Okta certification.
Experience with a modern ticketing/ITSM platform (Jira Service Management, Freshservice, Halo, or similar).
AV and conference room systems (Zoom Rooms, Neat, Logitech).
Exposure to ISO 27001, SOC 2, or similar compliance frameworks.
Experience supporting a lab, hardware, or manufacturing environment alongside corporate IT.
Experience working across multiple offices, countries, and time zones.
