The Corporate Communications team leads enterprise, executive, employee, change, reputation, crisis and external communications for Protective. The Associate I, Corporate Communications primarily supports employee communications through content development, editorial coordination and channel execution. Working under the guidance of team members, this role supports the execution of communications plans and helps manage the channels and processes that keep employees informed and engaged.
This teammate is an excellent writer and highly organized project coordinator who can translate complex information into clear, engaging communications. The role provides opportunities to build experience across corporate communications disciplines while supporting defined assignments and serving as a key contributor to the team's day-to-day content and channel work.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, edit and publish content for intranet (Indigo), enterprise newsletters, digital signage, employee emails and other internal channels.
- Maintain the enterprise editorial calendar and coordinate content inputs, reviews, approvals and publication.
- Support enterprise announcements, employee campaigns, leadership communications and All Company Town Hall content.
- Partner with teams across the company to gather information and develop clear, audience-focused communications.
- Draft supporting materials such as key messages, FAQs, leader notes, Indigo articles and presentations.
- Track channel and content performance and support recurring communications reporting.
- Provide content and project support for executive, change, reputation, crisis and external communications as assigned.
- Contribute to team planning, cross-training and business continuity.
- Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills, with the ability to adapt content for different audiences and channels.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
Knowledge/Experience/Education/Training:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or related field required.
- 1-3 years of experience in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or related experience preferred.
- Strong writing skills required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with teammates, business partners and senior leaders.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Team player who enjoys collaborating with others and building strong working relationships.
- Strong skills in Canva or another visual content creation platform preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under tight deadlines.
- High level of organization and attention to detail.
- Driven, proactive and goals-oriented.
- Experience with intranet publishing, newsletters, content management systems or employee communications preferred.
- Experience interpreting communications metrics and analytics preferred.
- Financial services or insurance industry experience is a plus.
Work Location and Schedule
This position is based in Birmingham, Alabama, and follows the Corporate Communications team’s hybrid schedule (3/2). Occasional work outside regular business hours or additional in-office presence may be required based on business needs.
