Production & Technical Manager Mississauga

Your Mission

The Production & Technical Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the manufacturing facility by leading both Production and Technical (Maintenance/Reliability) functions. This role ensures the delivery of operational performance, product quality, equipment reliability, food safety, and continuous improvement objectives. The position is responsible for Manufacturing Operations, Maintenance & Reliability and Operational Excellence/Continuous Improvement initiatives for the factory.

The incumbent provides leadership to production and technical teams, develops organizational capability, and drives operational excellence through strong people leadership, preventive maintenance, continuous improvement, and a culture of accountability and safety.

What you will do

1. Safety, Food Safety & Compliance

  • Champion a culture of safety and ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to food safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead investigations of safety incidents, near misses, and equipment failures.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce risk.
  • Maintain readiness for customer, regulatory, and certification audits.

2. Production Leadership

  • Lead manufacturing operations to achieve safety, quality, service, cost, and productivity objectives.
  • Ensure production schedules are executed efficiently and customer requirements are met.
  • Monitor and improve operational KPIs including:
    • OEE
    • Labour productivity
    • Schedule attainment
    • Waste and yield
    • Downtime
    • Customer service levels
  • Drive problem solving and root cause analysis activities.
  • Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures and operational standards.

3. Maintenance & Reliability Leadership

  • Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Oversee maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution.
  • Improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Lead capital maintenance projects and equipment upgrades.
  • Establish asset management best practices.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, inventory, and contractor performance.

4. Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean manufacturing principles and structured problem solving.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize costs.
  • Lead cross-functional projects focused on productivity, quality, and capacity enhancement.
  • Support implementation of digital and automation initiatives where appropriate.
  • Promote a culture of operational excellence and continuous learning.

5. Quality & Customer Focus

  • Partner closely with Quality, R&D, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to ensure customer expectations are met.
  • Address quality issues promptly and effectively.
  • Ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
  • Support new product introductions and process improvements.

6. Leadership & People Development

  • Build a highly engaged and accountable team culture.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop supervisors and technical leaders.
  • Manage workforce planning and succession planning activities.
  • Conduct performance management and talent development processes.
  • Support labour relations activities where applicable.
  • Promote employee engagement and continuous development.

7. Financial & Business Management

  • Manage labour, maintenance, and operating costs within budget.
  • Develop business cases for capital investments.
  • Monitor and report on operational performance metrics.
  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Drive productivity improvements and cost savings initiatives.

What we expect from you

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing, or related field.
  • Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng.) is considered an asset.

Experience

  • 7-10+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience.
  • Experience leading both production and technical/maintenance functions.
  • Strong knowledge of food manufacturing processes and food safety requirements.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Operational Excellence, or similar methodologies.
  • Proven experience leading teams in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
