Technical Project Manager - 4 Months Contract - Octopus by RTG - Remote

Role Overview

We are looking for a Technical Project Manager to own the end-to-end delivery of web and app development projects, including ongoing support and maintenance engagements.

The ideal candidate combines strong project management and delivery skills with a solid technical background and experience managing software development projects. This role requires someone who can work closely with Engineering and QA teams, understand technical requirements and dependencies, challenge estimates and timelines when needed, and ensure projects are delivered successfully.

The role operates in an evolving environment where structure exists but may require strengthening. The ideal candidate takes full accountability for delivery outcomes, proactively drives projects forward, and effectively manages technical risks, dependencies, and blockers.

While overall client ownership remains at senior level, this Technical Project Manager will lead client calls, manage project reporting, coordinate UAT, and serve as the primary driver of day-to-day technical delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Project Ownership & Delivery

• Own end-to-end delivery of web and app development projects.
• Manage project planning, sprint planning, execution, and closure with Development and QA teams.
• Drive timely sprint completion and minimize spillover.
• Ensure clear understanding of technical scope, deliverables, requirements, and acceptance criteria.
• Translate business and client requirements into clear deliverables for technical teams.
• Maintain delivery momentum across parallel technical workstreams.
• Monitor project progress against timelines, scope, quality, and dependencies.

Technical Risk & Issue Management

• Proactively identify technical risks, blockers, and dependencies that may impact delivery.
• Work closely with Engineering and QA teams to investigate issues and drive resolution.
• Challenge technical estimates, timelines, and dependencies when required.
• Identify root causes of delays and implement mitigation plans.
• Escalate technical and delivery risks early with clear recommendations and action plans.
• Track cross-team and technical dependencies throughout the project lifecycle.

Client-Facing Responsibilities

• Lead client status calls and technical delivery discussions.
• Present structured project progress updates, risks, dependencies, and action items.
• Translate technical updates into clear and understandable client-facing communication.
• Own UAT coordination, including entry/exit criteria, issue tracking, and closure.
• Manage support ticket tracking, prioritization, and resolution follow-up.
• Maintain clear and professional communication with enterprise and demanding clients.

Technical Collaboration

• Work closely with developers, QA engineers, and other technical stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Understand software development processes, architectures, integrations, APIs, and technical dependencies sufficiently to engage effectively with engineering teams.
• Participate in technical discussions and help translate technical decisions into project plans and delivery actions.
• Ensure technical requirements and dependencies are clearly understood and tracked.
• Support realistic estimation and planning by understanding technical complexity and resource requirements.
• Facilitate communication between technical teams, business stakeholders, and clients.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in Technical Project Management or Digital Project Management, preferably within web or app development.
• Proven experience managing software development projects from planning through delivery.
• Experience working closely with Development and QA teams in Agile or hybrid environments.
• Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
• Solid technical understanding of web/mobile applications, APIs, integrations, databases, and common software development concepts.
• Ability to understand and actively participate in technical discussions with engineers and technical stakeholders.
• Ability to assess technical dependencies, challenge timelines/estimates, and identify potential delivery risks.
• Experience working with enterprise or demanding clients.
• Strong ownership mindset with a proven track record of driving technical delivery outcomes.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

• Experience working with technical teams on API integrations or third-party integrations.
• Experience with cloud-based projects or platforms.
• Technical background in software development, engineering, QA, or a related technical field.
