Senior Software Developer - Front End

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer - Front End to lead the front-end customization, user interface design, and web mapping development for enterprise spatial applications. In this role, you will translate complex technical systems specifications into responsive, accessible, and user-friendly web interfaces. Utilizing advanced GIS SDKs, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern front-end frameworks, you will build and extend custom web map viewers, integrate spatial REST APIs, and optimize user experience across web platforms.

Location: Toronto, ON (Fully Onsite – 5 days/week required)

Duration: 2-month contract.

Responsibilities
Front-End & UI Engineering: Design, develop, code, and test responsive front-end user interfaces, ensuring seamless user interactions and cross-browser compatibility.

Web Mapping Application Customization: Customize and extend web mapping applications using VertiGIS Studio Web SDK, Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 SDK, or ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript.

GIS Platform & Workflow Development: Build and deploy custom GIS viewers and workflow tools using VertiGIS Studio (Web and Workflow), Geocortex Essentials, and ESRI Experience Builder / Web AppBuilder.

REST API & Service Integration: Consume and integrate spatial data services utilizing ArcGIS REST APIs, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Portal environments.

Modern Web Coding & Scripting: Write clean, modular code using JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3, while integrating modern front-end frameworks like React.

Accessibility Compliance: Design and code intuitive front-end web components that comply with web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0 Level AA / AODA requirements).

Technical Troubleshooting & Quality Assurance: Translate business specifications into working application code, conduct unit testing, debug front-end defects, and provide technical post-implementation support.



Qualifications
Web Mapping SDK Customization: Proven experience customizing mapping applications using VertiGIS Studio Web SDK, Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 SDK, or ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript (Strictly Required).

Front-End & Web Technologies: Hands-on expertise with JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, React, and responsive web design frameworks (Strictly Required).

ESRI Application Builders: Proficiency with ESRI-based application builders including VertiGIS Studio (Web/Workflow), Geocortex Essentials, or ESRI Experience Builder (Strictly Required).

GIS Services Integration: Demonstrated experience consuming and interpreting GIS web services via ArcGIS REST API, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Portal (Strictly Required).

Accessibility Standards: Experience developing web UI components compliant with web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0 Level AA / AODA) (Strictly Required).

Nice-to-Have Assets:
Prior front-end software development experience within a public sector or enterprise environment.

Experience running pilot programs or integrating third-party APIs and middleware.

Strong background in user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design principles.
