Key responsibilities

Review designs, drawings and specifications against the contract, site conditions and process requirements, and resolve queries with the drawing office and client
Prepare technical scopes for suppliers and fabricators, evaluate offers technically, and inspect and expedite equipment and steelwork during manufacture
Plan installation with the project manager (sequencing, lifting, access and method statements) and support site teams and contractors during erection
Lead or support cold and hot mechanical commissioning, client handover, punch lists and close-out documentation
Maintain project technical records: drawing registers, change control, data books, as-builts and O&M manuals
Provide accurate technical input to project costing and claims, and flag scope changes early
Uphold safety on site, including inductions, risk assessments, permits and the client’s safety system

Minimum requirements

BEng, BSc(Eng) or BTech in Mechanical Engineering
3 to 8 years’ experience in heavy industry, ideally on plant, equipment or materials-handling projects in mining or minerals processing
Hands-on site experience during installation or commissioning
Ability to read, check and challenge fabrication and GA drawings, and to specify equipment clearly to suppliers
Well organised with project records and documentation
Willingness to travel to mine sites in South Africa and across Africa

Advantageous

Progress towards ECSA registration
Comminution (crushing, milling, screening) experience
