Redwood Materials is a circular economy and battery recycling company focused on creating a closed-loop supply chain for electric vehicles and clean energy storage. Founded by former Tesla CTO JB Straubel, the firm recovers critical metals like lithium, nickel, cobalt, and copper from used electronics and manufacturing scrap to produce high-performance battery components domestically. By recycling and remanufacturing these materials, it aims to lower the environmental impact and cost of batteries while strengthening North American supply chains.

About Redwood Materials

Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 by JB Straubel, co-founder and former CTO of Tesla, on a simple but radical idea: the critical minerals powering the energy transition already exist. They just need to come back. Today Redwood is the largest lithium-ion battery recycler in North America - recovering, refining, and redeploying critical minerals from end-of-life batteries back into the supply chain. On the energy side, Redwood has deployed the largest second-life battery project in the world, delivering power to AI data centers in months rather than years using proprietary energy architecture engineered entirely in-house. The company is profitable, the market it operates in is projected to grow 20 to 50 times over the next decade, and Redwood is the only company with the supply chain, the technology, and the operational scale to lead it.

Redwood Materials is currently seeking a Staff Architect to join our Infrastructure Development team. Thisroleisat the center of our activities focused on creating a sustainable circular economy for lithium-ion batteries by transforming recycled materials into battery materials for new lithium-ion battery production. In this role you will lead architectural design and code compliance for large-scale industrial battery recycling facilities from concept through construction. You will serve as Architect of Record on designated projects, act as a primary liaison to Authorities Having Jurisdiction, and mentor a growing internal design team.

  • Experience with design-build, progressive design-build, or EPC delivery on fast-track schedules
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple large projects and teams concurrently, meeting aggressive deadlines while resolving complex design and construction challenges
  • Willingness to drive projects to completion through innovative solutions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, engineers, contractors, and regulators while navigating conflicts
