Staff Software Development Engineer

Job Description:

The Builder Experience team owns the core of Remitly's software development lifecycle including source control, CI/CD (GitHub Actions), Forge our internal developer platform, quality and compliance gates, and the AI-assisted tooling that both engineers and non-engineer Builders now use to ship changes. Our mission is to give every Builder at Remitly such as engineer, PM, designer, data analyst world-class tools, workflows, and guardrails so they can build and ship with speed and confidence. As a Senior or Staff Software Development Engineer, you'll work on highly technical problems spanning our CI/CD platform, IDP - Internal Developer platform, GitHub platform administration and best practices, environments, and AI-assisted development and compliance standards systems used by every engineering team at Remitly, where an outage or a guardrail gap has company-wide blast radius. This position will report to the Engineering Manager of Builder Experience. This role will be hybrid based in Seattle, WA.

You Will:

• Design, build, and operate the platforms that power Remitly's software delivery lifecycle such as CI/CD, IDP - internal Developer platform, Source control and the build, test, release, and deployment infrastructure, engineers depend on every day.
• Own reliability for teams systems that every engineering team at Remitly depends on for shipping software including including health, on-call ownership and root-cause resolution when they break
• Extend our tooling and guardrails to support the full range of Builders at Remitly, not just engineers writing code including PMs, designers, and others building with AI agents, so they can ship safely within a regulated environment
• Shape how AI is used in Remitly's own development lifecycle: build AI-aware capabilities into our platform and help define standards for evaluating and validation AI-assisted and AI-generated contributions
• Lead team-level design reviews and technical planning for Team initiatives, breaking large initiatives into workstreams delivered in parallel, and factor AI into estimation and capacity planning
• Partner with Infrastructure, Security, and Compliance as the platform owner accountable for security, privacy, compliance, reliability, and quality across everything Builder Experience ships
• Mentor engineers on the team, contribute to hiring and interviewing, and help raise the technical bar for Builder platform work at Remitly
• Stay current on industry best practice in Builder platforms and AI-assisted engineering, and apply it to keep Builder Experience ahead of the size and complexity of Remitly's tech stack.

You Have:

• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 2-3 years focused on Builder/Developer tools, build/release systems, or cloud infrastructure platforms rather than product-facing systems.
• Advanced expertise in at least one language used in our stack (Go, Python, or TypeScript), plus hands-on experience with CI/CD systems (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins), source-control platform administration, or internal developer/deployment platforms
• Experience leading technical design reviews and breaking large, ambiguous company wide initiatives such as large scale migrations, multi region into workstreams other engineers can execute in parallel
• Experience partnering with Security, Compliance, and Infrastructure teams to ship Builder infrastructure that meets strict regulatory requirements, ideally in a regulated industry
• A track record of driving Builder-platform / Developer platform or infrastructure work that improved productivity, reliability, or velocity beyond your own team with measurable impact across other teams or the org, not just your codebase.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical trade-offs to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders
