ResMed is a medical device company founded in Sydney in 1989 by a physician who had helped develop the first practical treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea and could not persuade anyone else to commercialise it. It makes the masks, flow generators and ventilators used to treat sleep apnoea and chronic respiratory disease, and it has built a large software business in the cloud platforms that manage those devices and the out-of-hospital care around them. Now headquartered in San Diego and listed in New York and Sydney, it shares the sleep apnoea market largely with Philips and benefited substantially from its competitor's device recall.

As a Reliability Engineer at ResMed, you will be responsible for improving the reliability, availability, maintainability, and performance of manufacturing equipment, processes, and products. Working closely with Product Development, Quality, Operations, and Manufacturing teams, you will drive reliability initiatives, resolve technical issues, conduct validation activities, and implement continuous improvement programs to minimize failures, reduce downtime, and enhance product quality and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes, equipment, facilities, and documentation to meet production, quality, reliability, safety, and cost objectives.
  • Partner with Product Development to ensure robust, reliable, and manufacturable product designs throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Conduct reliability assessments, failure investigations, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Support prototyping, verification, process validation, and new product introduction (NPI) activities.
  • Monitor and analyze reliability and manufacturing performance metrics to identify trends and drive improvements.
  • Recommend equipment, process, and design enhancements to improve performance, reduce downtime, and increase product reliability.
  • Develop and support preventive and predictive maintenance strategies where applicable.
  • Lead and participate in Lean, Six Sigma, GMP, and continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, yield, and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain compliance with Quality Management Systems, GMP requirements, and Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) standards.
  • Provide technical training and guidance on new equipment, processes, and procedures, while building strong cross-functional relationships.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical, Biomedical, or related discipline).
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing, medical device, or other regulated environment.
  • Experience in process validation, manufacturing support, reliability analysis, and technical problem-solving.
  • Strong knowledge of root cause analysis, data analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with reliability engineering methodologies, including RCA, FMEA, statistical analysis, and reliability modeling.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, SPC, GMP, and ISO 13485.
  • Experience supporting equipment reliability, asset performance improvement, and preventive maintenance programs.
