Recruiting since 2004, it works with independent fine dining restaurants, celebrity chef groups, casual restaurant companies and luxury hotels, and in 2018 founded the LA Chef Conference with a student mentorship programme. Its searches cover executive chefs, chefs de cuisine, sous and pastry chefs, culinary directors, general and restaurant managers, sommeliers and private chefs, mostly in Southern California.

An exciting new restaurant opening soon in Napa is looking for a highly service-driven Assistant General Manager to join the team! Centered around an expertly curated global wine program, the concept aims to become the go-to Wine Country dining destination - with a hyper-seasonal menu to complement the wine list, and an elevated, approachable space that invites guests from all walks of life to come and sip, savor, and enjoy for as long as they’d like.

The ideal AGM is a polished, passionate hospitality leader with a strong foundation in chef-driven, upscale or fine dining restaurant concepts (preferably a mix of both), who can help grow and mentor a strong, cohesive team in collaboration with the GM and a highly influential ownership team. This role will be responsible for supporting the GM in spearheading the opening, leading/training the team, and upholding Michelin-caliber service standards while remaining committed to the relaxed, unpretentious overall vision for the concept. Previous experience with P&L, forecasting, inventory, and COGs would be a big plus, and a high level of emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills are essential. Rare opportunity to be part of a very exciting opening!

Assistant General Manager Responsibilities:

  • Support the GM in overseeing all aspects of the operation within the restaurant - including but not limited to pre- and post-opening, staffing, inventory management, quality control, and service standards
  • Provide consistent execution and exemplary service to guests at all times
  • Direct the FOH team to ensure all opening, mid, and closing procedures are followed
  • Foster a positive work environment and ensure adherence to company policies and procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the restaurant
  • Ensure Michelin-caliber guest experience in all areas
  • Assist the GM with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and retaining a successful team
  • Train, coach, and mentor all team members
  • Ensure completion of food safety checklists and compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations, conducting regular inspections and implementing corrective actions as needed
  • Solve any guest issues in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Develop positive relationships with guests to build and maintain guest retention
  • Assist in maintaining and managing food cost and troubleshooting any issues that may arise
  • Assist in managing P&L, forecasting, COGs, and inventory control
  • Work closely with the General Manager to achieve business goals, contribute to strategic planning, and drive overall success of the restaurant
  • Fully understand and comply with all federal, state, county and municipal regulations that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements

Assistant General Manager Requirements:

  • 3-5+ years of progressive management experience in an upscale or fine-dining restaurant concept is required; i.e. Restaurant Assistant General Manager (AGM), Service Director, Senior Manager, Restaurant Manager, Food & Beverage Manager, Dining Room Manager, FOH Manager, Hospitality Manager, or comparable title
  • Strong service pedigree; any Michelin, Forbes, James Beard, or chef-driven restaurant experience is strongly preferred
  • Opening experience is a plus
  • Passion for high-caliber food, beverage, and high-end guest service
  • Strong knowledge of wine and spirits
  • Basic understanding of administrative functions and controlling cost of goods
  • High attention to detail
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to thrive in a hands-on, high-touch service environment
  • Experience in dealing with high end/VIP clientele
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, coaching, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Strong critical thinking and proactive problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to analyze processes and information, identify problems and trends, and develop effective solutions and strategies
  • Commitment to providing exceptional service to guests and support to staff members
  • Exceptional standards for cleanliness, health, and safety
  • Computer proficiency, including the use of Microsoft office
  • Flexible schedule, including weekends, and on holidays
  • Food safety certification

Compensation Includes:

  • Base Salary in the $105-120k range DOE
  • Annual Bonus Potential
  • Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance
