Director, Capacity Planning & Engineering

Roblox is looking for a Director of Capacity Planning & Engineering to lead the team responsible for translating platform demand into physical infrastructure reality - from supply-demand modeling and hardware procurement through data center deployment and FinOps. This is a high-impact leadership role at the intersection of infrastructure strategy, operational execution, and software engineering.

You will lead a team of approximately 20 people organized across four functional areas and will be responsible for scaling Roblox's infrastructure footprint as it continues to grow rapidly.

What You'll Own

Capacity Planning

• Translate platform demand forecasts into hardware requirements
• Own the supply-demand matching process end-to-end, working closely with Data Center, Hardware Engineering, and Supply Chain teams
• Build and refine capacity models that give the business confidence in infrastructure availability months ahead

Deployment & Delivery

• Oversee hardware lifecycle from procurement through physical installation and software provisioning.
• Partner with platform and data center operations teams to bring new capacity online reliably and on schedule.
• Own delivery execution for major milestones including new data center buildout (Q4).

Data Center Automation (Software Engineering)

• Lead a software engineering sub-team that builds and maintains DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) systems.
• Drive automation for rack delivery, decommissioning, and capacity planning tooling.
• Identify opportunities to scale automation coverage as Roblox's 25+ global data centers expand.

FinOps

• Oversee cloud spend optimization and on-prem vs. cloud allocation decisions.
• Grow and develop the FinOps function, which is lean today but increasing in strategic importance as cloud spend scales.
• Partner with Finance to ensure infrastructure spend is visible, justified, and optimized.

You Have:

• 10+ years of experience in infrastructure, data center operations, or related fields, with at least 3 years in a director-level or senior leadership role.
• Deep expertise in capacity planning and supply-demand analysis for large-scale infrastructure environments.
• Hands-on familiarity with DCIM systems and data center automation - this role is lower in the stack than platform software (not Kubernetes/cloud-native).
• Experience working across supply chain systems, hardware procurement, and deployment execution.
• Proven ability to lead and scale cross-functional teams including software engineers, planners, and operations specialists.
• Strong analytical and communication skills; comfortable translating complex infrastructure decisions for C-suite audiences.

• Familiarity with AI/GPU infrastructure - Roblox is actively building GPU factory capacity aligned with NVIDIA's next-generation hardware roadmap.
• Experience managing a FinOps function or cloud cost optimization at scale.
• Background in hyperscale, colocation, or edge data center environments.
• Exposure to liquid cooling infrastructure for high-density compute.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

Annual Salary Range

$399,420—$457,970 USD

Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
