Roche is a Swiss healthcare group founded in Basel in 1896 and is unusual in operating two large divisions of comparable importance: prescription medicines and in vitro diagnostics. The pharmaceutical business is built on oncology, neurology, immunology, ophthalmology and haemophilia, with products such as Ocrevus, Hemlibra, Perjeta and Vabysmo, while the diagnostics division supplies laboratory analysers, molecular tests and sequencing systems to hospitals worldwide. The group owns the American biotechnology company Genentech outright and the Japanese firm Chugai in majority, is controlled by a family shareholder pool, and spends among the largest research budgets in the industry.

The Position

The Diagnostics Supply Chain Network Orchestration department serves as a vital strategic engine for the organization, focused on driving end-to-end integration, supply chain resilience, and global operational excellence. By implementing advanced configuration methodologies and optimizing distribution parameters, the team systematically balances customer service requirements with cost and inventory goals. Every member of this global network shares an absolute commitment to permanently optimizing processes to increase quality and efficiency standards across the entire enterprise.

We are seeking a Head of Network Configuration to step into a high-visibility leadership role reporting directly to the Head of Network Orchestration DSC. This strategic position is responsible for the continuous operation, monitoring, and improvement of our global distribution network, leveraging a state-of-the-art framework that spans affiliates, regions, global hubs, and external partners. Operating with a high degree of strategic scope over the entire flow of goods, you will define the core distribution parameters that safeguard delivery reliability and ensure maximum customer satisfaction.

The Opportunity

  • Establishing global governance frameworks and standard operating procedures for distribution network parameter configuration ensures fully compliant and optimized operations.

  • Steering key parameter decisions regarding transportation modes, replenishment lot sizes, rounding values, safety stocks, and routing paths directly reduces costs, lowers CO2 emissions, and maximizes the shelf-life of the commercial finished goods portfolio.

  • Optimizing the end-to-end flow of goods allows the network to react with maximum speed and flexibility to unexpected regulatory shifts or changing customer demands.

  • Leveraging advanced analytics enables continuous monitoring of configuration variables to ensure the organization can immediately pivot into a crisis mode when external disruptions occur.

  • Managing a robust link with the Master Data Management function establishes a clear control process to securely govern all active distribution parameters within the department.

  • Designing complex multi-node supply chain architectures systematically balances service, inventory levels, and overarching cost structures from hub-to-hub, OEM-to-affiliate, and regional pathways.

  • Collaborating closely with affiliates and global business functions, including Global Product Planning, Network Management, Hub Operations, Commercial Supply Chain, and Order Execution, drives cross-functional standardization.

Who You Are

  • An academic foundation consisting of a Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field provides the required technical background.

  • A minimum of 7 to 8 years of professional work experience within the supply chain domain or international operations/production functions is essential.

  • Deep expertise in configuring complex multi-node supply chain architectures, lead times, safety stocks, and master data structures is necessary to drive automated network performance across the ecosystem.

  • Demonstrated capability in leading other leaders across diverse geographic and cultural boundaries is required to cultivate an inclusive, high-performance network and drive complex organizational change.

  • Excellent communication, analytical problem-solving, and interpersonal skills are mandatory to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and internal executive stakeholders.
