Roche is a Swiss healthcare group founded in Basel in 1896 and is unusual in operating two large divisions of comparable importance: prescription medicines and in vitro diagnostics. The pharmaceutical business is built on oncology, neurology, immunology, ophthalmology and haemophilia, with products such as Ocrevus, Hemlibra, Perjeta and Vabysmo, while the diagnostics division supplies laboratory analysers, molecular tests and sequencing systems to hospitals worldwide. The group owns the American biotechnology company Genentech outright and the Japanese firm Chugai in majority, is controlled by a family shareholder pool, and spends among the largest research budgets in the industry.

The Position

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Roche.

This role is based in the Real-World & Clinical Data Strategy (RWCDS) team which drives data excellence and analytics to power enhanced decision-making and evidence-generation within Roche Product Development. We develop and implement data strategies that unlock the value of clinical, operational, and real-world data to accelerate evidence generation, decision-making, and innovation across PD and beyond. By embedding FAIR principles, advancing data governance, and enabling data productization, RWCDS ensures that data is not only findable and usable, but also a driver of scientific rigor, regulatory readiness, and AI-powered transformation. Through deep partnerships with internal functions and external collaborators, we shape a future-ready data ecosystem that supports personalized healthcare and efficient drug development.

The Opportunity

The RWD Scientist plays a key role in generating insights from real-world data to inform clinical development, regulatory strategy, and healthcare decision-making. You will design and execute observational studies, contribute to data strategy, and collaborate across teams within Development and the broader Pharma organization. Your work enables evidence generation across therapeutic areas and supports the responsible and impactful use of real-world data at scale.

  • You apply in-depth knowledge of RWD and observational research to support study design, data analysis, and evidence generation across disease areas
  • You solve complex data science problems using fit-for-purpose analytical tools and real-world data assets, contributing to development, regulatory, payer and other strategic deliverables
  • You act as a functional resource and lead moderate-sized projects or data science activities focused on real-world data applications in clinical development
  • You build proficiency in independently leading substreams or large-scale cross-functional projects focused on RWD integration into clinical development and decision-making processes
  • You collaborate with cross-functional teams to define RWD needs, develop data pipelines, and ensure scientific rigor in execution and documentation
  • You build expertise in novel data types, statistical methods, programming languages, and analytical methodology, which may include advanced analytics, special trial designs and types, and data handling methods
  • You support knowledge sharing, tooling standardization, and continuous improvement in RWD methodology and delivery
  • You continuously look for opportunities to broaden knowledge, capabilities and skill set

Who you are

  • You hold a Master’s or PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Data Science, or a related field
  • You have a minimum of 5 years of experience with RWD analyses or epidemiological studies in healthcare or pharma; or an advanced degree with 3 years of equivalent work experience.
  • You have familiarity with RWD platforms, regulatory frameworks, and standard data models
  • You have the capacity for independent thinking and ability to make decisions based upon sound principles
  • You exhibit excellent strategic agility including problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and agility that extends beyond technical domain
  • You demonstrate respect for cultural differences when interacting with colleagues in the global workplace
  • You possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, specifically in the areas of presentation and writing, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts in clear language

Preferred

  • Practical experience working with EMR, claims, registry, or digital health data
  • Experience contributing to submissions or publications involving RWD
  • Experience in the cardiovascular, renal, or metabolic disease therapeutic area is a plus
  • Exposure to pharmacoepidemiology or HEOR
