The Position
We are looking for an experienced AWS Data Engineering Technical Lead to design, build, and deliver reliable, high-performance data solutions on AWS.This role combines hands-on technical leadership- you'll design and build robust data pipelines, data frameworks, data governance (quality, privacy) solutions and will set engineering standards. This role also requires to work with Global Roche and vendor partner teams
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design, development, and optimization of scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows on AWS
Architect data lake, data warehouse, and lakehouse solutions using services such as S3, Redshift, Glue, EMR, Lake Formation, and Athena
Define and enforce data engineering best practices: coding standards, CI/CD, testing, version control, and code review processes
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of data engineers, including task planning, code reviews, and career development
Collaborate with data architects, analysts, data scientists, and data product managers to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Design and implement data orchestration workflows using tools like Apache Airflow (MWAA), Step Functions, or similar
Ensure data quality, governance, security, and compliance across pipelines and storage layers
Optimize pipeline performance, cost, and scalability across batch and streaming architectures (Kinesis, MSK/Kafka)
Own infrastructure-as-code practices for data infrastructure using Terraform or CloudFormation
Troubleshoot and resolve complex data pipeline issues, ensuring high availability and reliability
Drive technical decision-making on tooling, architecture patterns, and platform roadmap
Partner with DevOps/Platform teams on CI/CD, monitoring, and observability (CloudWatch, Datadog, etc.)
Stay current with AWS data ecosystem advancements and evaluate new tools/services for adoption
Required Qualifications
8+ years of experience in data engineering, with 2+ years in a technical lead or senior data engineering role
Deep hands-on expertise with core AWS data services: S3, Glue, Redshift, EMR, Lambda, Athena, Kinesis, Lake Formation
Strong programming skills in Python and/or Scala, plus advanced SQL
Proven experience designing and operating large-scale ETL/ELT pipelines (batch and streaming)
Experience with data orchestration tools (Airflow/MWAA, Step Functions, or equivalent)
Solid understanding of data modeling, data warehousing concepts, and dimensional/lakehouse design
Experience and knowledge of Semantic Layer (Cube), Context Engineering to power Agentic AI Data solutions
Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipelines
Familiarity with big data processing frameworks (Spark, Hadoop ecosystem)
Strong understanding of data security, IAM policies, encryption, and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2)
Experience leading or mentoring engineers, including code reviews and technical guidance
Excellent communication skills, with ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Detailed knowledge and understanding of Pharma Commercial business and data :- sales, claims, Voice of Customer, Veeva CRM,IQVIA
Preferred Qualifications
AWS Certification(s): AWS Certified Data Analytics - Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or AWS Certified Data Engineer - Associate
Experience with dbt, Kafka/MSK, or modern data stack tools (Snowflake, Databricks)
Experience with real-time/streaming data architectures
Background in data governance frameworks and metadata management (e.g., AWS DataZone, Collibra, Atlan)
Prior experience in a Pharma Commercial Business Domain
