Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: The Thrift Store Clerk provides service to customers, sort incoming product and assists in the ongoing retail operations of The Salvation Army Lethbridge Thrift Store.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.

Operations

  • Assist with donation drop offs, unloading donations from vehicles, providing customer service to the customer donating goods to the store
  • Processing donations - assist with cleaning, assessing, testing and pricing donated goods
  • Cleaning & Organizing - maintaining a clean and organized production areas as well as store front. This includes, but is not limited to, sweeping, mopping, keeping donated items tidy, washing room cleaning, organizing store front to maintain a tidy-well kept area.
  • Cash handling - assist as required with cashier duties. This will include greeting customers in a friendly manner, assisting customers with questions about items or the store, creating a fun welcoming environment, and ringing items through the till.

Health & Safety

  • Contribute to the safety of staff and customers (e.g., snow removal, clear fire exits, cleans spillage; no obstacles inside/outside the store).
  • Maintain an attractive organized appearance of the store, tidy up and restock shelves, clean, sweep, dust, and mop as necessary; on a rotational basis clean the lunchroom, washroom, and other common areas.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

Perform other position related duties.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Typically in a store and warehouse environment
  • Ability to stand for long periods with frequent twisting, bending, crouching, and reaching is required
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered. Education, Qualification & Certifications:
  • Completion of some high school course work.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check, as determined by The Salvation Army in its discretion, is required as a condition of employment.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • Prior related experience in retail and knowledge of lifting guidelines is an asset
  • Brand awareness would be a definite asset.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Customer service skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral).
  • Attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated/disciplined.
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
  • Physically capable of lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs on a frequent basis with no assistance from others, which includes bending, twisting, pulling, pushing of products.
  • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $16.82 to $21.03 with a maximum of $25.23.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
