SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA)

We are seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) with PostgreSQL knowledge to manage, maintain, and optimise enterprise-scale database environments. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in database administration, high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), replication, performance tuning, database automation, and security.

The role involves ensuring database stability, reliability, scalability, and performance while supporting infrastructure modernisation and cloud adoption initiatives. The candidate will also handle critical incidents, perform root cause analysis, maintain operational documentation, and mentor junior DBAs.

• Design, implement, and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including SQL Server clustering and Always On Availability Groups.

• Manage database replication, data movement, and synchronisation across large enterprise database environments.

• Monitor database health, performance, availability, and stability, proactively resolving potential issues.

• Perform advanced database performance tuning using execution plans, wait statistics, query optimisation, and profiling tools.

• Troubleshoot complex database issues, investigate incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.

• Develop and maintain database automation scripts using PowerShell, Bash, or Python.

• Support database infrastructure modernisation, cloud migration, and database optimisation initiatives.

• Implement database security controls, including encryption, auditing, access management, and compliance requirements.

• Maintain technical documentation, operational runbooks, recovery procedures, and database administration standards.

• Participate in critical incident management and provide after-hours support when required.

• Collaborate with infrastructure, application development, cloud, and business teams to ensure reliable database operations.

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior database administrators.

• 8–10+ years of experience in database administration, with strong hands-on expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and working knowledge of PostgreSQL.

• Extensive experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions, including SQL Server clustering and Always On Availability Groups.

• Strong experience in database replication, data movement, synchronisation, backup, recovery, and managing large-scale enterprise database environments.

• Advanced expertise in database performance tuning, query optimisation, execution plans, indexing, wait statistics, and troubleshooting database bottlenecks.

• Proven ability to investigate critical database incidents, perform root cause analysis, resolve performance and stability issues, and implement preventive measures.

• Hands-on experience in database automation and scripting using PowerShell, Bash, or Python to improve operational efficiency.

• Experience supporting cloud adoption, database migration, infrastructure modernisation, and database optimisation initiatives.

• Strong understanding of database security, encryption, auditing, access management, compliance, and data governance practices.

• Exposure to modern database and monitoring technologies such as ClickHouse, FoundationDB, LGTM stack (Loki, Grafana, Tempo, Mimir), Rybbit, or Valkey.

• Experience creating technical documentation, operational runbooks, database standards, and recovery procedures.

• Ability to provide technical mentorship to junior DBAs, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and participate in critical incident response and after-hours support.
