Software Development Engineer

Position Summary

Samsung SDSA is seeking a hands-on full-stack Java Developer to be in charge of trouble shooting issues, developing, and enhancing software applications. In this role, you will be part of a team that creates and maintains small to medium-sized custom internal applications that supports the business and operations for our Austin Semiconductor location and support our brand-new state of the art Taylor, Texas Semiconductor Fab. This role will be working onsite 5-days a week and due to the nature of the role, it is essential to live within 1 hour driving distance from Austin, Texas.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain Java-based enterprise software applications in accordance with customer requirements and technical specifications.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, software design, development, testing, deployment, maintenance, and production support.
• Develop and maintain enterprise Java/JEE applications, ensuring scalability, reliability, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Troubleshoot application issues, perform root-cause analysis, and execute ongoing software maintenance, enhancements, and performance improvements.
• Design and maintain relational database architectures, including conceptual, logical, and physical data models and Entity-Relationship Diagrams (ERDs).
• Develop and optimize SQL, Oracle PL/SQL, and Microsoft SQL Server stored procedures, including SQL performance tuning for large databases and high-volume data environments.
• Create detailed software designs, technical specifications, and engineering documentation.
• Conduct code reviews and promote software development best practices, coding standards, quality, and maintainability.
• Design and implement scalable system architectures, including system redundancy, virtual machines (VMs), cloud environments, APIs, and distributed systems.
• Develop and integrate RESTful and SOAP web services, APIs, and distributed communication technologies such as gRPC.
• Implement and work with distributed messaging and event-driven architecture patterns using Apache Kafka.
• Apply application and API security practices using technologies and standards such as OAuth and JWT.
• Implement application monitoring and observability using tools such as Prometheus.
• Perform JVM tuning, application performance optimization, and caching to improve system reliability and response times.
• Collaborate with development, infrastructure, database, and business teams to deliver high-quality software solutions that meet customer and business requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of professional Java software development experience.
• 5+ years of SQL development and SQL performance tuning experience.
• Extensive experience developing enterprise-level Java/JEE applications.
• Strong knowledge of Core Java, JDBC, JSP, Servlets, and the Java/JEE technology stack.
• Strong experience with Spring Framework and enterprise application development.
• Experience with Oracle PL/SQL and Microsoft SQL Server stored procedures.
• Strong database design and data modeling skills, including conceptual, logical, and physical data models and ERD development.
• Experience working with large-scale databases and high-volume data environments, particularly Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.
• In-depth understanding of database structures, relational database theory, database design principles, and performance tuning.
• Experience with SQL optimization and database performance tuning.
• Experience developing or integrating RESTful and/or SOAP web services.
• Knowledge of API design, gRPC, Apache Kafka, and distributed system architecture.
• Experience with system architecture, redundancy, virtualization, and cloud technologies.
• Knowledge of application and API security technologies, including OAuth and JWT.
• Experience with application monitoring, Prometheus, JVM tuning, and caching strategies.
• Experience with modern software development tools and methodologies, including Git or SVN, Maven or Gradle, and Jira.
• Working knowledge of JavaScript, jQuery, HTML5, and web application development.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clear software design documents, technical specifications, and engineering documentation.
