Samworth Brothers is a family-owned British food manufacturer headquartered in Leicester, England, producing sandwiches, savoury pastries, pork pies, ready meals, desserts and other chilled foods for major UK retailers and its own brands. Its history dates back to 1896, and it is known for Ginsters pasties, Melton Mowbray hand-raised pork pies and businesses such as Saladworks, with sites in Leicestershire, Worksop, Manchester, Bristol, Aylesbury and Falkirk. It hires production, despatch and goods-in operatives, maintenance engineers, quality auditors, shift production managers, stock controllers, van drivers, people advisors and national account managers.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Maintenance Manager to lead a large, multi-skilled engineering function within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This is a senior leadership position requiring an individual who has successfully managed teams of up to 25 engineers and supervisors, driven significant performance improvements, and created a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will be a strong people leader who can inspire, challenge and develop others whilst taking full ownership of engineering performance, site reliability, and operational excellence. They will be comfortable making difficult decisions, leading change initiatives, influencing stakeholders at all levels, and ensuring the engineering function delivers against business objectives.

We recognise that the right candidate may not be local to the site and are therefore open to applications from experienced Maintenance Managers across the UK. A relocation package is available for the successful candidate, providing support for individuals looking to relocate and join the business on a long-term basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop and manage a maintenance team of up to 25 FTEs, creating a high-performance culture.
  • Drive engineering reliability, planned preventative maintenance and continuous improvement strategies.
  • Take ownership of departmental KPIs, budgets, engineering performance and resource planning.
  • Lead organisational change, improving ways of working and embedding best practice across the engineering function.
  • Build strong relationships with production and senior leadership teams to support site-wide objectives.

  • Strong leadership and people management skills with a track record of coaching, developing and retaining talent.
  • Experience driving change, improving performance and delivering measurable business improvements.
  • Confident decision-maker with excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills.
