Sanofi is a French pharmaceutical company formed in 1973 and assembled over five decades through a long series of mergers including Synthelabo, Aventis and Genzyme. It is now built around immunology and rare disease, with Dupixent for atopic dermatitis and asthma as by far its largest product, alongside a substantial vaccines division covering influenza, meningitis and the respiratory syncytial virus antibody Beyfortus. Headquartered in Paris, the group has sharpened its focus in recent years by separating its consumer healthcare business into the standalone company Opella and directing research spending toward biologics and immune science.
  • Location: Waterford, Ireland
  • Start date: January 2027
  • Duration: 4 to 6 months
  • Work Model: onsite

About the job

As a Clean Utilities & Sustainability Intern, you will support ongoing projects that help ensure the reliable supply of critical utilities across the site while contributing to engineering, compliance, and sustainability initiatives. This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment while working with experienced professionals across facilities and engineering teams.

Main responsibilities:

  • Support the monitoring and analysis of clean utility systems, including water, steam, and compressed gases.
  • Help collect, organise, and interpret energy and water consumption data to support sustainability objectives.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical documentation, reports, and presentations for internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects focused on reducing the environmental impact of utility operations.
  • Contribute to the review and update of standard operating procedures and technical specifications.
  • Support audit and inspection readiness activities by organising and maintaining relevant documentation.
  • Attend team meetings and cross-functional workshops, documenting key actions and supporting follow-up activities.

About you

To excel in this role, you will need to:

  • Be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's programme in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Have a basic understanding of engineering, chemistry, or environmental science principles and an interest in sustainability and utilities operations.
  • Be comfortable reading and interpreting technical data and process documentation.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a structured environment.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal, as English is the working language of the team.
  • Be curious, eager to learn, and able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

It would be advantageous if you have:

  • Experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, or industrial environment through projects, placements, or previous internships.
  • Knowledge of water treatment, HVAC, or utility systems.
  • Familiarity with sustainability frameworks, environmental regulations, or regulated environments such as GMP.
  • Experience using data analysis or data visualisation tools such as Power BI.

Why choose us?

  • Stretch your skills through apprenticeships, internships, graduate programs, and international experiences that grow with you.
