Sanofi is a French pharmaceutical company formed in 1973 and assembled over five decades through a long series of mergers including Synthelabo, Aventis and Genzyme. It is now built around immunology and rare disease, with Dupixent for atopic dermatitis and asthma as by far its largest product, alongside a substantial vaccines division covering influenza, meningitis and the respiratory syncytial virus antibody Beyfortus. Headquartered in Paris, the group has sharpened its focus in recent years by separating its consumer healthcare business into the standalone company Opella and directing research spending toward biologics and immune science.

Job Title: Senior Scientist, Biophysics

  • Location: Waltham, MA

About the Job:

As a Senior Scientist in our Biophysics team, you'll design and execute advanced protein biochemistry experiments to characterize vaccine antigen candidates - driving antigen selection through epitope mapping, conformational analysis, and thermostability measurements to support rational vaccine design.

In this role, you'll use your biophysics expertise to translate complex experimental datasets into meaningful insights that inform antigen generation and selection pipelines, partnering cross-functionally with our design, structural biology, immunogenicity, and antibody teams to advance vaccine candidates toward the clinic.

Join the engine of Sanofi’s mission - where deep immunoscience meets bold, AI-powered research. In R&D, you’ll drive breakthroughs that could turn the impossible into possible for millions

About Sanofi:

We’re an R&D-driven, AI-powered biopharma company committed to improving people’s lives and delivering compelling growth. Our deep understanding of the immune system - and innovative pipeline - enables us to invent medicines and vaccines that treat and protect millions of people around the world. Together, we chase the miracles of science to improve people’s lives.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute advanced protein biochemistry experiments to characterize vaccine antigen candidates to support antigen selection and further understand the antigenic surface, conformation, and stability of our antigens
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of multiple projects to accurately analyze, interpret, and communicate complex datasets
  • Support internal site-specific projects and deliver concise, compelling scientific presentations aligned with project objectives
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with design, structural biology, immunology, and antibody discovery teams to integrate structural information with biochemical and biophysical data
  • Demonstrate broad technical proficiency and creative problem-solving across diverse range of experimental protocols
  • Contribute to the maintenance and oversight of lab facilities and equipment to ensure a safe and efficient working environment
  • Critically evaluate relevant literature to provide experimental and strategic input to senior team members, and contribute to the writing and maintenance of SOPs and other required documents

About You:

Education:

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Immunology, Biomedical Sciences or a related field with a minimum of 1 year of relevant postdoctoral research experience, preferably in protein production/characterization or equivalent discipline.

Experience & Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with various advanced analytical tools, such as HPLC, SEC-MALS, DSF, DSC, BLI, and SPR

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with protein purification and structural analysis, such as negative-stain EM, would be preferred

Soft Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Results-oriented, data-driven, experienced in fast moving and agile environments while maintaining a high degree of integrity

Why choose us?

  • Bring the miracles of science to life alongside a supportive, future focused team.
  • Discover endless opportunities to grow your talent and drive your career, whether it’s through a promotion or lateral move, at home or internationally.
  • Enjoy a thoughtful, well-crafted rewards package that recognizes your contribution and amplifies your impact.
  • Take good care of yourself and your family, with a wide range of health and wellbeing benefits including high-quality healthcare, prevention and wellness programs and at least 14 weeks’ gender-neutral parental leave.
  • Be part of a pioneering biopharma company that engages patients early in drug development and uses their insights to design studies that reflect real-world needs.
  • Work at the forefront of drug discovery, harnessing cutting-edge AI, data, and digital platforms to push the boundaries of science.
  • Help improve the lives of millions of people globally by making drug development quicker and more effective.
