About the Position
- SARS is seeking an energetic, results-oriented, and self-motivated individual to enhance its operations by applying a systematic and disciplined approach within the Tax Verification - Audit division. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and managing their workload, executing tasks within the Tax Verification - Audit space, and achieving set targets and objectives across various tax types.
- Knowledge of financial accounting principles, classifying, measuring, and recording the transactions of SARS
- Understands and able to apply SARS auditing policies and procedures
- The end of the contract is 31 December 2026
Job Purpose
To plan and conduct standard audits or verification on a risk profile basis to ensure compliance.
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualification & Experience Required
National Diploma / Advanced Certificate (NQF6) or Higher in Audit, Accounting, Finance or related field with 2-3 years' experience in an Audit environment
OR
Senior Certificate (NQF4) with 5 years’ experience in an Audit environment
Preferred Knowledge:
Personal Income Tax (PIT); Value Added Tax (VAT); Companies Tax (CIT) & Pay as You Earn (PAYE): Income Tax Act, Tax Admin Act, Interpretation of Financials, Basic Audit & Accounting Principles.

- Conduct standard audits to ensure compliance with the relevant acts.
- Assists in query resolution escalated from basic audits.
- Understands the audit process, from end to end, inclusive of risk analysis and dispute resolution. If required, can conducts standard audits independently and refers complex or unusual matters to a more seasoned professional.
- Plan and organise own work tasks within area of work.
- Develop productive working relationships with team members, team leaders and key role players in the business to support contracted work outputs.
- Understands and able to apply SARS auditing policies and procedures.
- Ensure that completed work adhere to relevant policies, procedures, governance and legislative requirements and report on deviations & discrepancies.
- Be informed on related acts and regulations that might impact on own work.
- Keep up to date records of completed work.
- Ensure quality of work content, minimise mistakes and continuously improve quality and standards.
- Deliver operating results within predefined quality, volume and time standards.
- Take accountability for delivery of contracted work outputs within agreed parameters, quality standards and client service targets.
- Constantly align own work method to changes in work requirements, procedures, policies, processes, and delivery systems to meet contracted targets.
- Be observant and engage on possible violations of regulations, policies, SOPs and standards of conduct and escalate where necessary.
- Prepare and present submissions to interest and penalty committee.
- Conduct end-to-end query resolution relating to audits conducted, including finalisation of objections and appeals.
