The Opportunity:
Litigation Lawyer for the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Unit (SCAN) - Regina
We are seeking a strategic and collaborative lawyer to provide legal advice and services to the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Unit, Ministry of Community Safety (“SCAN”). The SCAN program assists Saskatchewan communities by bringing civil enforcement action against properties being used for illegal activities. You will prepare and bring community safety order applications to the Court of King’s Bench in efforts to bring illegal activities to a halt. You will provide legal advice and support to SCAN Investigators tasked with investigating illegal activities.You will report to the Director of Litigation in the Civil Law Branch of the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General and work directly alongside the lawyer assigned to SCAN. The position offers an intellectual challenge and exciting opportunity to directly improve the safety of Saskatchewan communities, in an environment that provides for excellent work-life balance.
This is a renewable one-year contract position, potentially leading to a permanent position.The competitive salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The position’s responsibilities include:
- provide legal advice and services related to The Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Act;
- advise on, prepare, and review various legal documents; and
- conduct litigation on behalf of the SCAN program before the Courts and administrative tribunals.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:
- membership or qualification for membership in the Law Society of Saskatchewan;
- experience or interest in criminal law or policing is an asset;
- civil litigation experience or an interest in litigation work;
- excellent research and analytical skills, including the ability to apply legal concepts to fact situations using judgment and discretion;
- excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex legal arguments; and
- an ability to work independently, but also in a team environment, with lawyers and other professionals.
