Scott Logic is a software consultancy based in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom, and was founded in 2005. The company provides bespoke software development, technology strategy, data analytics, and user experience design services. It operates through six offices across the UK and serves international clients in highly regulated sectors such as financial services, government, and energy.

Scott Logic is looking for a Senior Content Designer to help shape and improve public services through clear, accessible and evidence-led content. You will work as part of multidisciplinary teams alongside user researchers, service designers, business analysts, product managers, delivery managers, engineers and architects to understand user needs, design content across digital and offline journeys, and help ensure services work for the people who use them.

This is a senior delivery role. We are looking for someone who can confidently plan and lead content design activities, engage with stakeholders at all levels, and help teams turn complex policy, legal, regulatory and operational information into content that users can understand and act on. The role sits within Scott Logic’s Product and User-Centred Design capability, which supports complex public sector programmes across the UK.

An opportunity to shape nationally important public services

One of the first opportunities likely to be available to the successful candidate is a major transformation programme supporting fisheries and marine licensing services in Scotland. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of product, business analysis, design, architecture and engineering specialists, you would help design content connected to vessel licensing, marine regulation, casework, policy requirements, operational processes and digital service journeys.

Content design would help the team make complex services clearer, more accessible and easier to use for vessel owners, fishing communities, marine staff, operational teams and policy colleagues. The work will involve understanding complex service landscapes, mapping content and service journeys, testing content with users, and helping teams make practical decisions that are grounded in evidence rather than assumptions.

As with many public sector programmes, the challenge is not simply about technology. It is about understanding people, services, policies and operational realities, then turning that understanding into clear content that helps users complete their goals.

What you'll be doing

  • Planning, leading and delivering content design activities across public sector delivery teams.
  • Creating, editing and improving clear, accessible content across digital and offline service journeys.
  • Working closely with user research, service design, product, business analysis, delivery and technical colleagues to understand user needs and iterate content based on evidence.
  • Turning complex policy, legal, regulatory and operational information into content users can understand and act on.
  • Creating and iterating content patterns, prototypes, guidance, forms, notifications, error messages and service copy where needed.
  • Mapping content and service journeys to identify gaps, risks, assumptions and dependencies.
  • Engaging confidently with client stakeholders, including operational, policy and delivery colleagues.
  • Championing accessibility, inclusion, plain English and evidence-led content decisions within complex public sector programmes.
  • Supporting the continued growth of Scott Logic’s User-Centred Design capability by helping develop reusable approaches, patterns and delivery assets that strengthen future projects.

Essential experience

  • Strong experience as a Senior Content Designer in multidisciplinary digital or service delivery teams.
  • Experience planning and leading content design independently, including shaping proportionate content approaches for complex services.
  • Strong understanding of user-centred design, accessibility, plain English, content testing and evidence-led iteration.
  • Strong content design skills, including content auditing, journey mapping, prototyping, pair writing and creating clear service content.
  • Ability to turn complex policy, process and domain information into clear content, guidance and service copy.
  • Ability to work closely with user research, service design, product, business analysis, delivery and technical colleagues.
  • Ability to engage confidently with users and stakeholders, including operational, policy and delivery colleagues.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, with strong judgement about how to explain content decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working in complex public sector service environments.
  • A strong understanding of accessibility, inclusion and designing for diverse user needs.
  • Experience working on Discovery and Alpha phases of delivery
