Senior Claims Handler

Job Location: Dublin, Ireland - hybrid Job Type: Permanent, full time Remuneration: Competitive salary taking into account skills, experience and qualifications

Take ownership of complex casualty claims and use your technical expertise to deliver the right outcomes for clients and customers.

As a Senior Claims Handler, you’ll take ownership of a varied portfolio of Employers’ Liability, Public Liability and Motor Liability claims, managing cases proactively from initial notification through to resolution. You’ll use your technical expertise and judgement to assess liability, causation, quantum and indemnity, developing clear strategies that lead to fair, timely and cost-effective outcomes.

You’ll investigate the circumstances of claims, review evidence and identify where further information or specialist input is required. With responsibility for more complex and higher-value cases, you’ll set and review reserves, negotiate settlements within your authority and identify opportunities for early resolution, while maintaining strong control over indemnity spend, legal fees and other associated costs. You’ll also recognise potential fraud, recovery, contribution, coverage and litigation issues, ensuring these are investigated or escalated appropriately.

Building strong relationships will be an important part of the role. You’ll communicate with clients, insurers, brokers, insured parties, claimants, solicitors and experts, providing clear, commercially focused updates and recommendations throughout the life of a claim. You’ll take ownership of your files, maintaining clear strategies, action plans and accurate records while delivering against agreed service levels and regulatory requirements.

As a senior member of the team, you’ll also share your technical knowledge with colleagues, provide support on more challenging claims and contribute to file reviews, technical discussions and continuous improvement initiatives. You’ll keep your knowledge of casualty claims, relevant legislation and market developments up to date, helping us maintain consistently high technical and service standards across the team.

The skills you will have when you apply:

  • Casualty claims experience: Relevant experience managing casualty claims, including the ability to independently manage cases within agreed authority levels.
  • Professional qualification: A recognised insurance qualification, such as CIP, or an equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Technical expertise: Strong knowledge of liability, quantum, reserving, negotiation, indemnity considerations and claims resolution.
  • Irish personal injury knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of the Injuries Resolution Board process and Personal Injury Guidelines, with the ability to apply this knowledge effectively when managing claims.
  • Analytical judgement: Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills, with the commercial judgement to evaluate evidence, identify risk and develop appropriate claim strategies.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, evidence-based and defensible reports and recommendations.
  • Negotiation: Confidence handling negotiations and difficult or sensitive conversations professionally, while working towards fair and commercially appropriate outcomes.
  • Organisation: Strong organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to manage a varied caseload, competing priorities and agreed deadlines proactively.
  • Technical leadership: Comfortable sharing knowledge, supporting less experienced colleagues and contributing constructively to file reviews and continuous improvement.
  • Customer focus: A professional and respectful approach, with a commitment to delivering a high-quality service to clients, customers and other stakeholders.
  • Judgement and accountability: Able to take ownership of decisions within your authority while recognising when a matter requires referral or escalation.
  • Digital confidence: Competent using Microsoft Office and claims management systems, with accurate and comprehensive file-management skills.
