sennder is a Berlin company founded in 2015 that operates a digital road freight platform across Europe. It connects large shippers with thousands of small trucking companies and manages the transport digitally end to end. The company is one of the largest digital freight forwarders on the continent.

sennder is Europe's Leading Digital Freight Forwarder. In a traditional industry, we're moving fast and focusing on the digitalization and automation of road logistics. By leveraging our proprietary technology, we're building an ecosystem that is leading the industry into the 21st century.

We are a growing team looking for a Internal Auditor, in the Finance department to help us on our journey to revolutionize road freight logistics. The role might be based in Milan, Bucharest, Wrocław or Barcelona and will play a central part in strengthening our internal control environment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO...

As Internal Auditor, you will play a key role in strengthening sennder’s internal control environment across Finance and adjacent functions. You will lead internal audit activities, support the development and improvement of control frameworks, and work closely with internal stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks.

In this role, you will help ensure effective controls, support external audits, and contribute to continuous improvement across processes, reporting, and compliance. In this role you will...

  • Own the design, documentation, and continuous improvement of sennder's internal control framework across Finance and adjacent functions.
  • Plan and lead internal audit reviews end-to-end, from risk-based scoping and fieldwork through findings, remediation tracking, and reporting to senior stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors, coordinating audit planning, evidence requests, walkthroughs, and issue resolution across the year-end and interim cycles.
  • Identify, assess, and monitor financial and operational risks, maintaining a risk register and escalating material exposures to management.
  • Partner with process owners across the business to remediate control gaps, track corrective action plans, and embed controls into day-to-day operations.
  • Support the preparation and continuous refinement of SOX-equivalent or ICFR-style control documentation, testing plans, and evidence libraries.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, and Data Protection colleagues to ensure controls reflect current regulatory requirements (including GDPR-relevant data handling where applicable).
  • Deliver training and awareness sessions to build a strong controls culture across Finance and operational teams.
  • Prepare clear, concise reporting on control effectiveness, audit status, and risk trends for leadership and, where relevant, the Audit Committee.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and rollout of tools and automation that improve the efficiency and quality of controls and audit processes.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR...

  • Fluency in English is required; German or another European language is a plus.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; a professional qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIA, CPA, or equivalent) is strongly preferred.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience, with a core background built in internal and/or external audit (Big 4 or similar professional services experience is a strong plus), followed by in-house risk and controls exposure.
  • Solid understanding of internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO) and experience designing, testing, and remediating controls in a corporate environment.
  • Track record of managing external audit relationships and coordinating complex, multi-stakeholder audit cycles.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting and financial reporting processes, with the ability to assess risk across revenue, procure-to-pay, treasury, and reporting cycles.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with sound judgment in prioritizing risks and translating findings into practical, business-relevant recommendations.
  • Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage confidently with process owners, senior leadership, and external auditors.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-changing, scale-up environment, with the ability to build structure and process where it doesn't yet exist.
  • Experience with ERP and finance systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) and an affinity for automation and process digitalization is a plus.
