Accounts Supervisor

• Our client, an established Audit and Accounting firm with offices in Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Johannesburg, is seeking an experienced and motivated Accounting Supervisor to join their Pietermaritzburg team.
• This opportunity is ideally suited to an accounting professional with strong technical accounting knowledge, experience managing client portfolios and the ability to supervise and review the work of junior accounting staff.
• The successful candidate will oversee daily accounting operations, ensure the accurate preparation and review of financial information, manage client deliverables and maintain high standards of service and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage the daily operations of the accounting department.
• Oversee and review the preparation of annual financial statements.
• Review monthly management accounts and financial reports.
• Manage a portfolio of clients and maintain strong professional relationships.
• Review bookkeeping, reconciliations and general ledger accounts.
• Oversee VAT, income tax and other statutory submissions.
• Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Provide technical guidance, training and support to junior accounting staff.
• Monitor staff performance, productivity and departmental deadlines.
• Ensure all accounting deliverables are accurate and completed within agreed turnaround times.
• Identify operational challenges and implement process improvements.
• Report to management on departmental performance, outstanding matters and workflow.

Minimum Requirements

• BCom Accounting degree or equivalent qualification.
• Completed SAIPA or SAICA articles will be advantageous.
• Minimum 3–5 years' relevant experience within an accounting or professional practice environment.
• Previous experience supervising, managing or reviewing the work of accounting staff.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Proven experience preparing and reviewing annual financial statements.
• Experience with tax submissions, including VAT and income tax.
• Proficiency in CaseWare and relevant accounting software.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
• Excellent communication, organisational and client relationship management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple client portfolios and competing deadlines.
• Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport will be advantageous.
