Senior QA Automation Engineer

Your Role

As a Senior QA Automation Engineer at Shelly, you design and build a new test automation framework from the ground up using Python and pytest. You develop reliable automated tests for our IoT devices and cloud services, helping teams catch issues early and release with confidence. You work closely with hardware, firmware, and software teams to make sure our smart-home products deliver the “it just works” experience our users expect.

Your Responsibilities:

• Desing and implement Shelly’s test automation framework using Python and pytest.
• Develop and maintain reliable, scalable API, contract, and protocol test suites for our IoT devices and cloud services.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to provide timely, consistent feedback on product quality.
• Enable local test execution with clear, traceable logging that helps teams reproduce issues and identify their root causes.

• Define and document modular, reusable test patterns that expand coverage and keep maintenance manageable.
• Partner with hardware, firmware, and software teams to embed quality checks throughout development.
• Mentor colleagues, share automation best practices, and help the team use and extend the framework effectively.

What makes you a great fit:

• You bring at least 3 years of hands-on test automation experience and expert-level knowledge of Python and pytest.
• You have a proven track record of designing and building test automation frameworks from scratch.
• You take an API-first approach to testing and are comfortable creating contract and protocol tests for technologies such as REST APIs, Bluetooth, Zigbee, and Matter.
• You understand continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and know how to integrate automated tests into development and release workflows.
• You write clean, modular, and maintainable test code, with a focus on reliability and scalability.
• You communicate clearly, mentor peers, and help teams put automation best practices into everyday use.
• You get bonus points for experience with IoT or embedded systems, or a strong interest in getting hands-on with connected devices.
