Currently, for one of our Partners, we are looking for an experienced eDelivery Backend Test Automation Engineer (m/f/n) to support a project focused on backend and API test automation for eDelivery-related digital solutions.

Contract: B2B via SHIMI.
Mostly remote, services must be performed from within the EU. Occasional travelling to Brussels may be required (the client may request on-site presence in Brussels with 7 days', at contractor's cost). For eDelivery profiles, 2 physical meetings with the customer are planned per 12-month period, max. 2 days each, at the contractor's cost.
Rate: 200-350 EUR/MD netto+VAT
Requirements
Java for writing robust, maintainable backend and API test automation code: at least 4 years.
API testing experience: at least 3 years.
Experience with SoapUI for SOAP service testing or Postman for REST service testing: at least2 years.
Experience building and maintaining backend, non-UI-centric test automation solutions: at least2 years.
Experience with message format standards such as XML, XSD, XPath, WSDL, JSON, and JSON Schema: at least2 years.
Experience with defect tracking and test management tools, e.g. Jira, Zephyr: at least 2 years.
Experience with version control systems, e.g. Git: at least2 years.
Experience designing, preparing, and monitoringautomated tests for APIs, web services, and backend systems.
Experience developing automated test suites for SOAP and REST web services using SoapUI, Groovy scripting, Postman, or Newman.
Experience creating backend test automation architecture covering functional, integration, and contract testing layers.
Experience validating message format correctness and protocol-level behaviour, including HTTP, TLS, and WS-Security.
Experience integrating automated backend tests into CI/CD pipelines.
Experience preparing structured and comprehensive test reports.
Ability toread and interpret technical specifications, API contracts such as OpenAPI and WSDL, and message format standards.
Excellent knowledge of English: minimumB2 level.
Nice to have
Experience with eDelivery-related standards: OASIS ebMS3, AS4, SMP, BDXL, ebCore PartyId, and eDelivery profiles such as AS4, SMP, BDXL, and ebCore PartyId profile.
Experience with Groovy as a scripting language within SoapUI and for lightweight automation tasks: assertions, property transfers, and data-driven tests.
Experience integrating automated backend test suites into CI/CD pipelines such as Bamboo or GitLab CI.
Experience with test data management for backend scenarios, including database seeding, mock services, and environment isolation.
Experience with containerization technologies, e.g. Docker.
Experience working in an international or intergovernmental organisation, European Institutions, or large public administration.
Experience producing structured technical documentation in English.
Good knowledge of French.

Tasks
Contribute to the development of one or more of the eDelivery products (Domibus, DomiSMP, DomiSML, eDelivery Conformance Testing Platform) in coordination with the eDelivery Solution and Technical Architect(s).
Develop and maintain services and business logic using one or more backend programming languages.
Maintain code integrity and organisation.
Writing clean, functional, and maintainable code on the backend.
Compile and analyse data, processes, and code to troubleshoot problems and identify areas for improvement.
Perform unit/integration testing, debug, fix, and validate code changes.
Deliver solutions that fulfil functional and non-functional requirements and align with user expectations.
Design and implement distributed transaction patterns.
Handle idempotency and duplicate detection across service boundaries.
Implement reliable message delivery with at-least-once / exactly-once semantics.
Manage eventual consistency and compensating transactions.
Apply data and security best practices: input validation, authentication/authorization, secure storage, compliant logging and monitoring.
Design and implement authentication and authorization flows to secure API endpoints and services.
Implement certificate-based mutual TLS (mTLS) between services.
Manage secrets, key rotation, and HSM integration.
Conduct threat modelling and security review of API surfaces.
Optimization of the application for maximum speed and scalability.
Profile and optimize database query plans and index strategies.
Design caching strategies.
Identify and resolve contention points (connection pools, thread starvation, lock contention).
Conduct load and stress testing, interpret results, and iterate.
Design and develop versioned, backward-compatible REST or SOAP APIs.
Define and enforce API contracts (OpenAPI, WSDL) across teams.
Implement service discovery, load balancing, and circuit breakers.
Govern inter-service communication patterns (sync vs. async, request-reply vs. event-driven).
Design and operate message broker topologies (queues, topics, dead-letter handling).
Implement and monitor async workflows with guaranteed delivery.
Integrate with third-party systems via standard protocols (AS4, ebMS3, etc.)
Handle schema evolution and backward compatibility in event-driven architectures.
Implement structured logging, distributed tracing, and metrics collection.
Participate in post-mortems and translate findings into architectural improvements.
Design and implementation of data storage solutions.
Choose appropriate storage engines for the access pattern.
Design for data partitioning, sharding, and replication.
Implement data migration strategies with zero or minimal downtime.
Enforce data integrity constraints at the application and database level.
Write technical documentation.
Basic configuration of cloud services for back-end functionality.
Write and maintain unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and reliability, integrating them into the CI/CD pipeline.
