Siemens is a German technology conglomerate founded in Berlin in 1847 by Werner von Siemens around a telegraph that indicated letters rather than Morse code. After a decade of divestments it now concentrates on industry, infrastructure, transport and healthcare, supplying factory automation and control systems, building and grid technology, trains and signalling, and the Teamcenter and NX design software acquired through a long run of software purchases. The Siemens Xcelerator platform ties hardware to software and digital twins, and the group retains a majority stake in the separately listed medical imaging company Siemens Healthineers.

Here at Siemens, we take pride in enabling sustainable progress through technology. We do this through empowering customers by combining the real and digital worlds, thereby improving how we live, work, and move today and for the next generation! We know that the only way a business thrives is if our people are thriving. That’s why we always put our people first. Our global, diverse team would be happy to support you and challenge you to grow in new ways. Who knows where our shared journey will take you?

Transform the everyday with us!

Siemens Digital Industries Automation is a leader in industrial automation and digitalization. We deliver innovative solutions that help customers transform their manufacturing operations and build smarter, more connected factories. Our portfolio spans advanced automation controls and sensors, high-performance drives and motors, HMI and SCADA systems, industrial process control and manufacturing execution systems, digital twin and simulation tools, along with equipment maintenance and safety systems. By integrating advancements in artificial intelligence, edge computing, IT/OT integration, and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), our technology unlocks new levels of productivity, efficiency, and data-driven insights.

We are looking for engineering students to join the Digital Industries Automation Internship Program - Process Automation Engineering Track. This position will be based at Harleysville, PA.

This 12-week summer internship is designed to introduce you to automation technologies used in process industries such as chemical, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical, and help you develop foundational knowledge of industrial process control, instrumentation, and software adaptability, while developing your skills in project execution, customer awareness, and professional problem-solving. This internship will prepare you for a potential opportunity with our full-time 18-month Automation Genesis program or other entry-level roles after graduation.

You’ll make an impact by:

  • Learning how Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), industrial networking, instrumentation, HMI, and SCADA technologies are applied in real customer environments
  • Working alongside experienced Process Automation engineers and mentors on supervised activities supporting the design and implementation of industrial automation systems and customer projects
  • Reviewing requirements, process descriptions, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), control strategies, and technical documentation to understand customer needs and system requirements
  • Assisting with system set-up, pre-test preparation, and Factory Acceptance Testing activities, and technical demos
  • Creating and refining test records, work instructions, checklists, standard operating procedures, calculations, and technical documents by gathering information from subject-matter experts
  • Shadowing proposal development, customer visits, engineering reviews, and project execution activities, including calculations, document preparation, approvals, quality practices, and commissioning concepts
  • Exploring responsible uses of AI-assisted technologies for documentation review, system design and analysis, data analysis, decision-making support, productivity, and troubleshooting, while applying critical thinking and engineering judgement to validate AI outputs and conclusions against technical requirements and standards
