Singtel is Singapore's largest telecommunications group and traces its origins to a colonial telegraph service established in 1879. It operates mobile and fixed networks in Singapore and holds major stakes in operators across Asia including Optus and Bharti Airtel. The group also runs NCS, data centres and regional cybersecurity businesses.

Every day, millions of Australians connect, work, stream, and stay in touch on the Optus network. When it works seamlessly, it’s easy to take for granted. But behind it is a team making thousands of decisions every day - decisions that keep people, businesses and communities connected.

Right now, Optus is focused on getting the fundamentals right - simplifying how we work, lifting standards, and building a more reliable, resilient experience for our customers.

It’s not about surface-level change. It’s about how we make decisions, how we work together, and how we deliver.

As the Associate Director, Internal Audit - Networks & Technology, you will provide independent, risk-based assurance across Optus’ Networks and Technology environment, with a strong focus on telecommunications networks, cyber security, technology infrastructure, resilience, data governance and critical technology services. You will lead complex audit engagements, oversee portfolio-level assurance activities, and partner with senior stakeholders to identify emerging risks, strengthen controls and improve operational resilience. Acting as a trusted and technically credible adviser, you will translate complex network, technology and cyber risks into meaningful business insights while ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based audit outcomes.

The Day to Day

  • Lead and oversee complex audits across telecommunications networks, technology infrastructure, cyber security, cloud services, data management, resilience and critical third-party technology environments.
  • Develop and execute risk-based audit plans, ensuring audit coverage aligns with emerging technology, cyber, operational resilience and regulatory risks across the Networks and Technology portfolio.
  • Provide independent challenge and quality oversight of audit planning, testing, findings and reporting, ensuring conclusions are evidence-based and focused on business, customer, security and operational outcomes.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across Technology, Cyber Security, Network Operations, Architecture, Data, Risk and Compliance functions, providing strategic insights and assurance recommendations.
  • Lead, coach and develop audit professionals while driving continuous improvement in audit methodologies, technology-enabled assurance techniques and Networks & Technology audit capability.

What You Bring

  • Significant experience in Internal Audit, Technology Risk, Cyber Security Assurance, External Audit or related assurance disciplines, including leading complex audits across technology and operational environments.
  • Strong practical understanding of telecommunications networks, network architecture, technology infrastructure, cloud platforms, cyber security, resilience and critical technology operations.
  • Proven ability to assess governance, risk management and control effectiveness across complex technology, cyber, data and technology-enabled business environments.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to translate complex technical risks into clear business, customer, regulatory and operational implications for senior leaders.
  • Experience gained within a Big 4 consulting firm (Deloitte, PwC, EY or KPMG) in Technology Risk, IT Audit, Cyber Security, Telecommunications Advisory, Technology Assurance or Risk Consulting will be highly regarded.

The good stuff

  • Competitive remuneration and colleague discounts. Make life easier (and more affordable) with $80 monthly credit and 25% off Optus products and outstanding shopping discounts with our retail partners.
  • Flexible working arrangements with opportunities to work three days in the office, two days remote or home.
  • Vibrant and collaborative office campus that includes cafes, convenience store, chill out zones, GP, post office, gym, and on-site childcare centre.
  • Competitive leave policies, including additional 'Connected’ days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever’s important to you.
  • We support growing families with inclusive, carer-neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks.
  • Build meaningful connections through colleague-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network, and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
  • Put your wellbeing first with free access to counselling and support services, 24/7 - in-person, by phone, SMS, or video.
  • Free Optus bus from Macquarie University Metro Station (every 6-8 minutes); morning and afternoon. Join us for an outstanding career opportunity!

Not every box ticked? Apply anyway. We believe the right mindset matter more than a perfect CV. We’ll back you to grow from there.

At Optus, we are strengthened by others and that means valuing diversity and saying ‘yes’ to embracing individual differences. We are committed to ensuring that our application process provides an equal employment opportunity to all job seekers, including individuals from diverse gender, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, individuals with a disability, individuals identifying as being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, individuals who may have served in the armed forces or who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
