Sliact Robotics is looking for a hands-on Founding Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team. The role involves mechanical design, CAD modeling, prototyping, and testing of mechanical systems. The ideal candidate should have strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and a practical approach to developing functional prototypes and solving engineering challenges.
A self-driven engineer who enjoys designing, building, and testing mechanical systems. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in a startup environment, taking ownership of engineering tasks, and contributing to product development from concept to prototype.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and mechanisms using professional CAD software.
- Create detailed 3D models, 2D engineering drawings, and assembly documentation.
- Perform basic engineering calculations and select suitable materials and mechanical components.
- Develop prototypes using 3D printing and other manufacturing processes.
- Assemble, test, and troubleshoot mechanical systems and implement design improvements.
- Work with motors, actuators, gearboxes, bearings, and motion transmission components.
- Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Coordinate with electronics and controls teams for mechanical and electromechanical integration.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, or equivalent CAD software.
- Good understanding of mechanical design, engineering fundamentals, materials, manufacturing processes, tolerances, and GD& T.
- Knowledge of mechanical components, including bearings, shafts, gears, actuators, gearboxes, and motion transmission systems.
- Hands-on experience with 3D printing, including printer setup, bed leveling, calibration, slicer settings, material selection, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to design functional prototypes, perform mechanical assembly, and validate designs through testing and iterative improvements.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, sheet-metal fabrication, and additive manufacturing.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to take mechanical designs from concept to working prototypes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in robotics, industrial automation, or mechanical product development.
- Familiarity with electromechanical systems and actuator integration.
- Experience with rapid prototyping and hands-on hardware development.
