The manager establishes standard work, develops teams, monitors key performance indicators, and uses structured problem solving to improve productivity, accuracy, cost, and on-time performance.

Main Job Duties:

Operations Management

  • Lead day-to-day Transportation and Wire operations across multiple shifts, aligning staffing, workload, equipment, and priorities with customer and outbound requirements.
  • Establish and sustain standard work for wire cutting, quality verification, labeling, reel management, staging, dispatch readiness, and inventory accuracy.
  • Manage workload, staffing, productivity, scrap, quality, capacity, and on-time completion using measurable KPIs and clear performance expectations.
  • Coordinate material and information flow between Wire, Inventory, Picking, Shipping, Dispatch, Transportation, and branch operations.
  • Coordinate large or complex wire orders, staged deliveries, JIT requirements, same-day needs, and other jobs requiring early alignment between Wire and Transportation.
  • Oversee transportation execution, including dispatch, route and schedule coordination, manifest closure, transportation documentation, local claims, service exceptions, and last-mile delivery performance.
  • Monitor transportation capacity, service, cost, and delivery performance; identify risks early and implement corrective actions before customer commitments are affected.
  • Ensure efficient use of labor, equipment, fleet, and operational resources while supporting budget and service objectives.

Continuous Improvement (CI)

  • Build CI into daily operations through KPI reviews, standard work, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and structured problem solving.
  • Analyze operational data to identify trends, recurring issues, waste, and opportunities to improve productivity, quality, inventory accuracy, cost, and customer service.
  • Lead process-improvement initiatives across Transportation and Wire and ensure improvements are documented, measured, and sustained.
  • Establish operating rhythms such as daily huddles, performance boards, shift handoffs, and escalation processes that create visibility and accountability.
  • Partner cross-functionally to improve warehouse-to-transportation handoffs, route readiness, order flow, and end-to-end customer service.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop supervisors, leads, Wire Cutting Associates, drivers, dispatchers, and operational associates as applicable.
  • Conduct daily start-up meetings and communicate safety, service, quality, productivity, and performance targets.
  • Establish clear ownership, accountability, and escalation paths across shifts and functional areas.
  • Train teams on safe equipment operation, quality standards, standard work, problem solving, and CI practices.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, employee engagement, continuous improvement, and customer focus.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure operations comply with OSHA, company safety policies, applicable transportation requirements, and electrical standards.
  • Reinforce safety, 5S, equipment standards, PPE requirements, and company compliance expectations throughout the operation.
  • Conduct routine safety audits and partner with Safety and Maintenance teams on equipment inspections, preventive maintenance, and incident reporting.
  • Investigate operational, quality, transportation, and safety exceptions and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Experience: 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in warehouse, transportation, logistics, distribution, or related operations; supervisory or management experience preferred. Experience leading multiple operational functions or shifts is strongly preferred.
  • Transportation: Working knowledge of dispatch, routing, scheduling, fleet or carrier coordination, last-mile delivery, transportation documentation, service performance, and applicable safety/compliance requirements.

  • Continuous Improvement: Demonstrated experience using KPIs, standard work, root-cause analysis, corrective action, and process-improvement methods to drive measurable operational results. Lean or Six Sigma experience is a plus.
  • Systems & Analytics: Proficiency with ERP/WMS/TMS systems, barcode scanning technology, operational reporting, and data analysis; Eclipse experience preferred.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership, coaching, communication, organizational, and decision-making skills with a data-driven, safety-focused, customer-centered approach.
