Sony Group is a Japanese conglomerate founded in Tokyo in 1946 by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita, which grew from transistor radios and the Walkman into one of the broadest entertainment and technology businesses in the world. Its largest profit engine is PlayStation, run by Sony Interactive Entertainment, followed by a music division holding some of the biggest recorded and publishing catalogues, Sony Pictures, and the Alpha camera and Bravia display lines. Less visible but strategically central is its semiconductor arm, which supplies the majority of the world's smartphone image sensors, alongside a substantial financial services business in Japan.
