Director - Accounting

SoundCloud is looking for a Director of Accounting, someone with a passion for numbers, to join our great finance team. Joining our Accounting & Tax department in Berlin, you will serve as the senior accounting leader locally  and directly to the VP Group Controller. As an ambitious and driven team member, you bring enthusiasm to make a significant impact across multiple areas. You will hold genuine accountability from day one, with the autonomy to elevate our financial group reporting standard.

You will take full ownership of group consolidation, IFRS financial reporting, German local statutory reporting (HGB), intercompany accounts, and technical accounting positions. Additionally, you will guide the annual audit process and direct the local accounting team and serve as a counterpart to the Berlin-Based Tax Team.

This position combines strategic enhancement with core stewardship. While financial consolidation currently relies on Oracle Fusion and spreadsheets, you will lead the selection and roll-out of a dedicated platform. You will collaborate closely with key stakeholders across US accounting leadership, Treasury, Tax, and external partners.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare consolidated IFRS financial statements and related Notes
• Manage monthly consolidated reporting packages
• Oversee German HGB statutory financial filings and directing local audits
• Drive end-to-end management, reconciliation, and settlement of intercompany activity across all subsidiaries
• Evaluate complex technical accounting developments under IFRS, drafting technical memorandums, and offering guidance across business functions
• Serve as primary liaison for external auditors during annual group audits, ensuring high-quality audit deliverables and prompt issue resolution
• Mentor and expand the local Berlin accounting team, overseeing AP, procurement operations and reconciliation of VAT/Sales Tax accounts in cooperation with the Tax Team
• Lead the evaluation and implementation of a new software solution for group financial consolidation
• Partner closely with US finance leadership to align accounting policies and improve group-wide close efficiency

Experience and Background:

• 8+ years of relevant experience within top-tier audit firms or corporate group accounting environments
• Fully certified professional credentials (such as CPA, Steuerberater, Wirtschaftsprüfer, ACCA, or an equivalent designation)
• Practical, hands-on background in IFRS multi-entity consolidation, with demonstrated experience preparing or auditing full consolidated statements and disclosures across foreign currencies
• Solid understanding of German HGB statutory framework, local compliance, and tax audit procedures
• Proven supervisory leadership, managing and nurturing the professional development of accounting personnel
• Fluency in written and spoken English and German, paired with strong, constructive interpersonal skills
• Advanced capabilities in Excel and familiarity navigating modern systems across ERP, financial close, and procurement technologies
• Exceptional problem-solving abilities, high self-motivation, and a collaborative mindset
• Thriving in a dynamic, high-growth environment focused on high performance and tangible impact
• Prior involvement in implementing financial consolidation platforms is a plus
• Familiarity with Oracle Fusion tools is preferred
• Background in tech, digital media, music, or subscription businesses, including specialized royalty and intellectual property accounting, is desirable
